About Braun

Braun is known for design-driven innovations. Braun’s minimalist, clean aesthetic, introduced by renowned German designer Dieter Rams, was built around the brand ethos - less, but better. Rams and his colleague Dietrich Lubs launched a range of functional timepieces based on the established visual language that made Braun products iconic.

In recent years this range has been re-established and revived, updated to bring the past forward. Made to last from reliable and durable raw materials, today’s award-winning range of Braun watches and clocks is designed and built with a focus on quality and precision.

Although this has the same style of face as another Braun I own (Braun Men's Quartz 3 Hand Movement Watch BN0021BKBKG With Leather Strap) it's a significantly bulkier watch due to the steel surround and the thick silicone strap. If you have small wrists or don't like big watches, I'd suggest trying one of the other Braun designs instead.

I'd probably return it if it wasn't for the fact that in order to try it properly you have to cut the strap down to size by snipping off sections of the silicone. This is a fiddly job, since you have to remove and refix the spring-loaded fastening pin each time you cut a segment - and you're advised to only cut one segment at a time to reduce the risk of taking off too much. If you do cut too far - or if you later gain weight or if your wrists swell in hot weather - you'll have problems.

Once trimmed to size, the strap feels fairly comfortable and is soft and flexible, the only slight annoyance being the edge of the metal catch which you press to open the strap and which I can sometimes feel digging into my inner wrist. On one occasion the catch managed to pop itself open while I was wearing it.

The good points about the watch are the excellent timekeeping and the simple, clear, easy-to-read face. At the current Amazon price of £30, I feel it's OK for something that I'll use occasionally. It's not a watch I'd buy again, though - mainly because of the cut-to-fit strap design.

It has a larger round face than I expected, but am happy. Especially the texture of the rubber strap. Would like the other colours as well now. Take great care cutting down to your wrist size, and cut equal sections on each end to keep clasp center - there's no going back once you've cut!!!!

I came across the Braun Watches by the red-dot design award website and introduced to the Braun range. I purchased this watch as an impulse purchase and I am extremely happy with this purchase. A must buy!

- Huge simple, clear, deep dial
- Very comfortable silicone... in fact the best silicone feel of any watch you can purchase.
- Lightweight
- Durable
- simple strong clasp
- Accurate and reliable
- simple colour
- simple non disposable feel

- not likely to get a girl to notice you :)
- requires time to cut and adjust strap to fit your wrist. But once its done, its comfortable. - see braun website and downlaod the pdf instructions... its simple!
- isn't able to slip under the shirt.
- not a typical conformist watch... its a bit abstract compared to other watches
- The braun brand as a watch raises eyebrows... but don't be afraid, its better build and better designed than any swatch.
- no date window

Bottom line:
Horses for courses... You wont have any regrets with this purchase

HASH(0x9b33a858) out of 5 stars Great watch 14 Feb. 2014

Colour Name: Orange Verified Purchase
I haven't had any issues with the clasp like the other reviewer mentions. I actually really like the design of the clasp, hidden when closed and an elegant mechanical design. The only concern with this watch is you really have to commit to it when you try it on. To adjust the strap, you actually remove the clasp and cut the length down with scissors. If you cut too short you are out of luck, so measure carefully. I'd seen this watch in a modern design shop for almost $200, so I was pretty happy to pay less than $60 for it.

HASH(0x9b33ae28) out of 5 stars Cannot wear on slim wrists. 22 Aug. 2015
By TheDecider - Published on

I reluctantly had to return this item because it will never fit comfortably on my wrist. As other reviewers have noted, you need to cut the strap to the correct length for your wrist. The clasp mechanism then clips into holes on the shortened strap. Before attempting to cut the strap for my thin wrists I did some measuring and counting of the holes on the strap and discovered that there are insufficient holes in the strap for the clasp to be in the correct position on my wrist. If I had cut the strap to the required length I would have then discovered I had ruined the watch - the clasp could not be connected. This is a major design failure for a company like Braun. I love the design of the watch - I've collected some vintage Dieter Rams items and love anything from Braun - but it doesn't work for people with slim wrists. My wrists are thin but not freakishly so; I own a range of watches from various brands and I've never had to cut special holes in the leather bands, the pre-drilled holes work fine. Also I'm 50 years old, not a young kid. If your wrists are on the slim side, forget this watch as it will never fit your wrist and you might destroy the watch trying! Bummer.

HASH(0x9b4821f8) out of 5 stars The quality you expect from Braun. 7 Jan. 2015

Colour Name: Black
Braun is known for their clean look and modern design. This watch does not disappoint. One caveat is adjusting the band. It is sized by trimming the rubber strap. You need to trim it evenly on both sides for it to fit comfortably. And if you trim too much, you're SOL. There's no way of fixing a band that's cut too short other than replacing the watch.

HASH(0x9b33e570) out of 5 stars nice summer watch 15 May 2015

This is a nice informal watch for the summer. I got it for a vacation where I didn't want to wear my more expensive watches. I have a small wrist and this watch looks good. The band / sizing is a little weird, and lets hope I don't get fat, as no making this watch bigger.

HASH(0x9b33e6f0) out of 5 stars Great everyday, durable but classic watch. 12 May 2016
By Mark Pants - Published on
Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase
I actually already had this watch in orange and liked it so much for everyday use I thought I'd get the more understated black version. Wore it for my whole trip in Iceland. I'm no Lewis or Clark but I did quite a bit of hiking (for me), went under waterfalls, got hailed on, rained on, rolled around in the grass to get photos and it kept time, didn't get scuffed up and didn't look or feel cheap or rubbery (which the band is).
