A dark realistic cop series from world-famous filmmaker and former police office Olivier Marchal. Braquo (slang for Heist) follows a squad of Paris cops who exist in the blurred boundaries at the very edge of the law, often using violence and intimidation to get the job done. The lives of these officers change radically when their squad leader, falsely accused of corruption, commits suicide. Determined to clear his name they start an investigation of their own, only to find that the police department itself stands in their way. Driven by adrenaline and a thirst for justice, they must turn their backs on the laws they re sworn to enforce if they are to uncover the truth. Facing constant danger from all sides - and with the two most likely outcomes being imprisonment or death the stakes couldn t be higher, but that merely serves to crank up the tension in this acclaimed series.

The team is headed up by Caplan (Jean Hugues Anglade from Killing Zoe & Betty Blue), a phenomenal actor who you can't help but root for no matter how flawed he is. A brilliant program which can't come to English DVD soon enough.
The acting is first class, the plot is gripping, very violent yet their friendship and loyalty will make you forgive their every mistake.
And nice to see Anglade act again since I saw him in Betty Blue or Nikita. ANGLADE has the charisma to carry off his role as the leader of the pack.
I recently watched the whole series on FX and was hooked, I cannot wait for series 2 to start playing here in Uk.
I am French, I love the fact that my country has produced something of such quality and originality. The French are getting better at making exciting crime and cop thrillers films, watch out for the latest MARCHAL movie set in my hometown Lyon: "LES LYONNAIS". It should come out soon here in Uk. I hope it is just as good as his latest ones.
Also, I have been recommended the series "SPIRALS" (1,2&3) also available on amazon, so will defo get that sometime soon.
I see there is series 2 out now - I can't wait to see it.
Not for the fainthearted this film as it is at times very, very violent and it is shown in graphic detail.
If you like french cop films this is for you. Bit darker than the French Spiral series currently on BBC4 Saturday evenings but worth buying DVD when Spiral Series 5 ends soon. I would not expect this to be shown on British TV as I think the violence is too much for commissioning directors.

Very dark and violent, but becomes more absorbing as the series progresses and the characters develop. Definitely not a tourist's view of Paris.Published 7 months ago by AM
