Soak the ground as much as you can.
Use a spade to put a cross into the ground as deep as you can.
As you hammer the spike in, stop every couple of inches and put the drier into the spike.
It will be leaning so push it back upright.
Remove the drier and hammer the spike again.
Keep doing that every couple of inches and the amount the drier leans gets less and less as the spike goes in.
Took me ages to soak the ground and then less than 10 minutes to get the spike in.
But that's where it all ends I am afraid.
Firstly, let me says, I am a mature male who is also no slouch at DIY and handiwork. But the ground spike supplied with the drier is an epic design fail. If you don't have a sledgehammer you will be struggling to get this spike into almost any but the softest of gardens. I used a hefty rubber mallet and a block of wood (don't try hammering the spike without buffering with a block of wood whatever you do, - you'll simply mash it out of shape even more.
But the big issue is ALIGNMENT. Once you begin the epic task of trying to drive (see my photos) of what is essentially a fairly blunt piece of pipe into your ground, it is nigh on impossible to keep the spike at a 90degree angle.
The result - it goes in off a true straight angle and when you insert your drier it looks like it's been out for 12 pints, leaning over at a very sad angle.
Now,, you might be VERY lucky and get in the ground at 90 degrees but good luck trying - plus when its in and you realise your drier is at a skew wiff angle, its too late. The patch on my lawn is where I had to painstakingly dig it out! and its left a nasty patch on my lawn now which i have had too re-seed.
Some people I note on here say they dug a hole and used some form of concrete mix - and that's what I would do if I was forced to try it again. Hammering it into the ground is a nightmare.
It's gone back - awaiting a refund and we are going to try a retractable double line instead.
So, it's a good product, absolutely no doubt - but the ground spike is a massive deal-breaker.

What actually prompted this revue was that I have just needed to buy a replacement cover as the original has worn through. Mostly because it has lived in the garden in all season for 6+ years. If you are researching to find a fantastic garden dryer Stop! this is the one. As a lover of value for money the higher purchse price is worth every penny spent. I have not received anything for this review but really hope that it helps.
We used the spiky thing to go in the ground - we have not bothered to cement it in - and so far, so good. I tend to take it in each night so it doesn't weather so soon. I noticed today that one side of the lines has slackened off a little - I can't tell how this has happened as they are all individually strung. This doesn't affect the performance at all though.
I am really pleased with this purchase. It was quite pricey but I expect it to last a long time (especially as we are not leaving it out all the time,
The only slight annoyance is that one of the black bits from the end of one arm is missing. I had read other reviews that mentioned this and questioned the delivery person but he had no idea where it was. There are three others on the other arms but they are useful as you can hook things on through the little hole. Never mind. Over all, brilliant. Thank you, Brabantia.
The ground spike they provide is only 6 inches long so barely gives any stability even when concreted into the ground. The pole itself only goes into the spike for 4 inches. You can buy a longer separately but you shouldn't have to on something this expensive. The other issue is the main pole is very loose in the spike so it rocks back and forward excessively. I spent all day concreting the spike in yesterday and on first use today the weight of the thing rocking back and forward has torn the ground spike out completely.
Considering the weight, height and width of this thing, the ground spike needs to be at least 3ft long.
The other more serious problem is on first use, and put it its highest position, one of the arms has buckled and bent under the tension of the cables. And this is without any washing on it.
My last issue that to extend the line out you press a button on the middle pole and push the centre up. However this is really tough to do due to the weight of the arms. Whenever I tried to extend it out the whole thing kept coming out and the ground spike because it was too loose.
