Here is a moral tale for adults who would look through the eyes of a child… or is it a tale for children to be warned of adult humbug? Or there again might it be a reassurance - the twisting ‘turangalila’ story of humankind which never quite extinguishes itself?
‘Bozo’ is a fast-paced romp around the globe with echoes of Narnia, Candide, Around the World in Eighty Days, One Thousand and One Nights, but always with an allusion to our modern world’s inconstancy and contradiction just below the surface, waiting to hoist us back from its harum-scarum plot into an uncomfortable reality. Who ever you are, don’t think there isn’t something the Storyteller won’t find to reveal in the mirror. No-one is completely good and (almost) no-one is completely bad and no-one ever completely knows; perhaps that is Bozo’s most valuable message - “No-one can know the whole of the truth… We simply catch passing reflections of it and then make our best guess.” This is a wonderful read.
