The actual shaft weight diminishes due to going through so many pulleys so basically the 50 lbs shaft weighs only around 40. I have the original Bowflex and I can tell difference.
The Bowflex Extreme 2SE is very well constructed. The materials are heavy duty and well finished. It is constructed to last a long time. Assembly is easy, but requires the assistance of a second person. Everything fits together well. Alignment for assembly is good. The process goes well because of the good, close fit and tolerances.
I would guess that the weak point to a Bowflex is the power rod construction. I anticipate that over time these may weaken. We have used ours regularly and often for two months now. The rods have done well in this short period, time will tell how they do over the years.
The Bowflex works beyond my expectations. It is enjoyable to use and easy to use. The design of the Extreme 2SE makes going from one exercise to another easy and without a hindrance. My wife and I purchased this to achieve more strength. The Bowflex is perfect for this. It provides a broad range of strength-building routines for many different muscles. It allows us to work out in the comfort of our home. We use this on a regular basis. This is far superior to a gym.
Safety is foremost. I have used free weights in the past. One needs to understand that using free weights brings with it some risk of injury. That risk of injury is simply not there for the Bowflex. To get toned and to build strength, this is the safest method out there.
Something not discussed too much in marketing the Bowflex is the instructional DVD that comes with the Extreme 2SE. I can not express strongly enough how good this video is. We feel as though we have our own kinesiologist and lifting instructor. Bowflex also provides work out routines in the manual and in an overview poster. We have not used these yet, but use the instructional DVD regularly. If you purchase the Bowflex Extreme, I would strongly suggest using this video that comes with it. It is professionally done and a big help.
During assembly I had one question during the last step that was not clear to me. I called the help line for assistance. The person responding was professional and caring. She used good English and was interested in ensuring that my question/problem was resolved.
I would strongly recommend purchasing the Bowflex Extreme 2SE for those individuals who are interested in building their strength and becoming healthier.
