A project from this book (or the book itself) would be great for any woman who likes to keep up with fashion."-About.com Guide to Knitting "Unique, pretty, clever. There’s a reason that–even though I rarely make accessories–I felt compelled to buy this book out of all the many new knitting books."-KnittingScholar.com "A very pretty book. Laura has created a collection of accessories and sweater accents that use classic influences long past and mix them with a modern functionality and appeal."-Knitty.com "Some creative and truly innovative techniques... the photography perfectly captures the dreamy, romantic yet urban feel of Irwin's designs."-knotions online magazine "The clever, pretty patterns in Laura's book are full of interesting twists."-The Oregonian KT2OG blog
About the Author
For the last five years Laura Irwin has designed the hand-knit ready-to-wear line Precious, which is sold at Seaplane, an independent designer boutique in Portland, Oregon. In addition to her ongoing apprenticeship at Pinkham Millinery, she also teaches knitting classes at Lint, a local yarn store in Portland. She has been a guest on Knitting Daily TV on PBS and on HGTV’s That’s Clever, demonstrating her felted hats and bags. She has also had projects in Knitscene and Interweave Knits, and her “Formal Boot Bag” was featured on the cover of Bag Style by Pam Allena and Ann Budd. She lives in Portland, Oregon.

This book has lovely photos and good clear instructions. I am sure that I will knit many more of the patterns.
I've knocked a star off because there a couple of things I can't make because I can't hold of the notions eg hand-made brass D ring which the author got in the US but I can't find in the UK. Not that it's her fault...
However I must say I'm really not that keen on the majority of the other projects, some of which I find too homely and some just a bit weird rather than actually stylish (like a bag made to look like a jumper with two cowl necks) - I'd hoped for more of that 'retro' look, but obviously that's just my own personal opinion. I'd recommend you check out the whole book before buying it if you get a chance, and if the projects appeal to you it'll be a good investment.
American knitter, Laura Irwin has not gone for boring - the lacy texture of the Shibori scarf, the textured hats, appliqued gloves and knits coupled with attention to detail, puts this ahead of many modern knitting books. I love the simplicity of the Alpaca scarf. Laura has included knitted accessories including bags. For me, some of the projects are off the scale of wearable, but it takes all kinds. Laura has a lively, creative imagination that she is applying to an art form in which proficiency is clearly shown. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, USA I would love to see her include elements and influences from that fabulous landscape, which is such a rich source of inspiration.
This is a beautifully illustrated book with a clear set of basic instructions on how to knit. Garment knitting instructions are clear and use charts. Unfortunately, there are no English yarn suppliers given. U.S and U.K. knitting needles sizes are given and some of the yarns stated are available here in England.
