It took me a little longer to get into than it did with some of the other HF books, but still a good story with some fantastic additions to the Havenwood Falls community.
I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.
“This is a Young Adult paranormal tale in the Havenwood Falls High series of Young Adult fantasy stories featuring a variety of supernatural creatures. The series is a collaborative effort by multiple authors. Each book is generally a stand-alone, so you can read them in any order, although some authors will be writing sequels to their own stories. Please be aware when you choose your next read.”
This was a book that captured my attention from the first page...strangers turn up at Eris' front door, strangers that turn out to be family that she knows nothing about. They need to talk to her and her father about a brother that she knew nothing about and that her father had forgotten about. The pair used to live in Havenwood Falls and when anybody leaves there, for the safety of the other supernatural residents a spell is put on them making them forget everything about the place and its people there.
The spell that was placed on Eris and her father is taken off by the visitors and when they are told that they are needed back in Havenwood Falls they are only too happy to comply. They need to find out who has put Eris' brother in a coma and try to get the spell lifted.
Apart from the main storyline I also enjoyed seeing Eris learn about her past and embrace the supernatural person that she is. I love the emotional scenes where she interacts with visions of dead family members too. They were written so well that you could really feel the emotions that were going through Eris at the time. She also finds herself attracted to her brother's best friend, he makes her feel safe, but he also makes her want to just grab him and kiss him. He plays a large part in helping her stay safe when she finds out who has hurt her brother and when she has to find a way to break the spell.
This book was only a novella, but it was full of exciting content which kept me reading as quickly as I could to find out just how it was going to end. This is definitely one of the best of this series, and I recommend it 100%.
I feel that you all need to just get out there and read this book and enjoy it as much as I did. I also feel that you all need to experience the world and characters that's been created by the author, Cameo Renae as I really enjoyed this book. Eris and Rylan (hottie mchottie) are great characters and this novella really did wring my emotions. Whilst it was a rounded out book I did feel that there was more to explore with the characters, and dare I hope that we will get to revisit them again soon.
Right, I'm off to review the rest of the books I've read set in this world and I really do recommend you read this book as it really was a beautiful read.
As part of Kristie Cooks Review Crew I was pleased to be offered the chance to read an advance review copy of Bound by Shadows. I had not come across Cameo Renae or her work before now, so this is a first sight review of both book and author.
What if you had a family and a history you knew nothing about? Eris Blaekthorn lives this life, at least until two strangers visit her home in New Mexico. Eris discovers a family and a history she knew nothing about. Arriving in Havenwood Falls Eris learns more than she could ever have imagined about herself and the family she never knew she had.
As with the other novellas I have read and reviewed which fall within the Havenwood Falls High series, the intended target audience is far younger than I am and this may well contribute to the fact that whilst I enjoyed the story I didn’t necessarily enjoy it as much as some of the other novellas, however I do hope to hear more from Blaekthorn Lumber and Supply.
With her brother in a coma, Eris & her family have to move fast to work out what has happened to him and how to save him before it's too late. Throw in a bit of flirtation with Rylan, her brothers best friend, and you've got yourself a pretty good novella full of mystery, magic and suspense.
I received an arc of this book.
