By Martin Turner HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 21 Nov. 2010
The GE7 is probably the most useful single-effect pedal that you can buy, either alone or in combination with something else. It doesn't provide deep twanging effects (flanger), the sound of a crying child (wah-wah) or wild distortion, but it gives you an instant alternative sound which is as clean and acceptable in all situations as your original sound -- and which can be used to make even the most passive valve-amplifier roar with rage, or make a tame distortion pedal spit nails. For acoustic guitarists, it can also help you out of that tight spot when the guitar is feeding back through the stage monitors, and the band-leader is on the point of telling you that you don't need to play tonight...

The GE7 was my first pedal. Even though I've now moved on to the world of guitar modelling with the Roland VG99, I still use the lessons I learned from the GE7 in every sound I set up.

Essentially, this is a 7 band graphic equaliser with an unseemly amount of boost and cut in the frequencies which are most useful to guitarists. Each band, from 100 Hz to 6.4 kHz offers 15 db of boost or cut. The bands are an octave apart, and each covers approximately 2/3 of an octave above and below its centre frequency, so you get an overlap in the middle of the octave which has been tuned relatively intelligently to take advantage of the fall off to avoid excessive notches or peaks when two sliders are pushed up together. The bottom note on a guitar is 83 Hz, so the range is nicely covered, even if you drop the bass E down to a D. At the top end, the final slider extends up to around 10 kHz, which is the zone of pick noise on an acoustic guitar, or beyond the sizzly/raspy on an electric.

Got an 'average' guitar amp? Not valve? Not enough cash for a £1000+ replacement? Well good news! This is for you! Most makes of guitar amplifiers in the £100-£500 price range always lack middle tonal range, no matter how much you tweet the knobs. This pedal is one of Boss's finest ( Along with the DS1, CS3 et al ) - it's been out for years, and is an unsung hero in my book. You can sculpt the tone completely with this thing and get exactly what your after with a cheap amp. I use it on a Peavey Transtube 212 , ( which at £230 is a great amp by the way ) and it gives me the sound of an amp ££££££ more expensive. This pedal is so good, it "lives" in the back of my guitar amp in the effects loop, and is on, all the time. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit, and if your an experienced guitarist looking at this review, where have you been? Lol Buy it now guys

i have had this pedal before and just bought it again ,better than most boss pedals,as they tend to be a one trick pony, this is your guitar eq ,i will not bore you with the details, other than your guitar has 1 tone control and this has seven!!!!!! so as a guitarist wanting to create a bass line loop this does the job, metal sound use the scoop top bass end low middle top treble.so theres a couple to get you going

This is genuinely a super useful pedal for EVERY guitarist. Why be limited with your amps 3 EQ's of Low Mid and High, when you can have 7 individual bands AS WELL!

I have used this GE-7 in my arsenal of pedals on my board for both changing the tone of your guitar and tweaking it to perfection, but also a useful fact about this is you can use it as a BOOST PEDAL!

When i use this a boost pedal, i cut some of the lows (because not used much in solo's) and then i will slightly boost a few of the certain highs with then around a 1-2dB boost on the level output. This really gets any solo to cut through the mix and shine right to the back of any audience!

With this pedal having some many uses, what can be bad about it? well even the build quality is top notch, being a boss pedal, we all know the sturdy ness these have to offer.

So overall this is a brilliant versatile pedal, there is no reason not to buy it right now!

Not a lot you can say about the BOSS equaliser pedal other than excellent build quality, superb tone control and doing exactly what it says on the box ! This wee beastie opens up a pandora's box of tones I previously thought unattainable from such a small device and I'm sure anyone buying one of these will not be disappointed.
Take some time to acquaint yourself with this pedal and it'll be time well spent.

This is the best pedal equaliser around. You may think a simple little equaliser it's a bit unglamorous, but believe me, the quality of sound you get from this little beauty is simply sumptuous. So much depth of tone at the low end and beautiful crisp clear highs. Db Sound Boost a handy little extra for adding some extra volume notches for eg solos, if so desired. One thing worries me, with the 9v mains adaptor some slight oscillating background hiss comes in, but not with the battery. Any ideas why..? Boss are the best pedals for my money anyway.
