Product Description

Powerful 2000W shredder--lighter, faster, and easy to use

The Bosch AXT 2000 Rapid Shredder is a fast and powerful shredder, perfect for green, soft material. Powered by a high speed 2000W Bosch ‘Powerdrive’ motor it enables high material throughput. With its laser-cut precision blade, made from especially hardened steel, it provides excellent cutting performance of green or woody garden debris.

Features of the Bosch AXT 2000 Rapid

The Bosch AXT 2000 Rapid features a Bosch Powerdrive 2000 watt motor Bosch ‘Powerdrive’: giving you maximum power

With its uniquely designed motor running at 3650rpm, the AXT 2000 Rapid is lighter and faster than most others available on the market today. The high speed 2000 watt motor and innovative gear set work together to give a higher speed/torque ratio than is usual with this style of shredder. When the going gets tough, the torque and speed are maintained allowing for 'rapid' throughput of green garden debris.

Precision blade

The double-sided, laser-cut precision blade delivers approximately 7 times more cutting power than conventional blade shredders thanks to the 2000 watt Powerdrive motor. The blade also delivers a fine material throughput of up to 80 kg/h with up to 35mm cutting capacity. You can now turn your garden debris in to something useful like mulch or compost, faster and easier.

I bought this because after cutting down a hedge I had a huge pile of clippings and wanted an easy way to get them into bags to take off to the dump.

It did an outstanding job on one set of clippings (bay) turning the pile quickly into a mound of fine shreddings that I have added to the compost heap. It's quite satisfying too!

On the clippings from another part of the hedge it was more disappointing. This was leafy laurel, and even the thin bits refused to go through the shredder at all, at which point I had to resort to a pair of secateurs to chop the branches into small pieces.

My overall comment - does a spectacular job on some of your clippings but you'll still have some work to do yourself.

I had thought that this shredder would do what it says on the tin, errr sorry, box ie shred! When I put thin branches in to be shredded they came out badly bruised and not shredded, others gave me 9-10 inch-long thick slivers of wood and most leaves remained totally untouched. I had such high hopes of it paying for itself with a fast turnover of good quickly made compost, but I can't see that happening any time soon! All in all, a bit disappointing.

Well that's not entirely true but I'll get that that bit later!

This shredder arrived today and not a moment too soon as I pulled out a big bush over the weekend and didn't realise how many twisty branches I would end up with. Chopping them to bag-sized pieces with my pruners would have taken days!

Out of the box the shredder was pretty easy to set up as it's quite a light bit of kit. All that's required is attaching the wheels to the stand and then the stand to the shredder body. You'll need a screwdriver (doesn't matter what kind) and a hammer (sounds a bit drastic but it's just to knock in the plugs that hold the wheels on).

Ear plugs/defenders are not essential but I used them anyway as I'm a bit precious about my hearing, and eye protection is a must as bits will fly everywhere from both ends. When feeding in branches and twigs, they can be twisted round as they are sucked in and bits break off and fly around in all directions. If you're shredding a lot of branches, I'd recommend gardening gloves, too.

My only grievance really is that it doesn't come with anything to collect the mulch in, although for the price I paid on Amazon, I can't really complain. I've seen the official Bosch accessory bag for £15 but it looks a lot like one of those blue Ikea bags so I'm going to try one of those next time (as if it really is similar, it really isn't worth £15). I used a plastic box to collect the mulch but as it is ejected from the bottom of the shredder pretty fast, it tends to bounce back out quite easily and make a mess all around. I had to use the lawn mower afterwards to clear up all the chippings.

I see in a lot of the other reviews that people have said it went blunt after an hour but I had no such problem.

I have a largish garden, (40' x 200'), with hedges and a couple of fruit trees, so I don't want anything 'iffy'. I'm not a novice shredder, having had two others in the past fifteen (or so) years, both of which worked well initially, but lost their sharpness very rapidly and I have spent a fair bit of time sharpening the 'razor-type' blades.

I considered buying one of the 'screw-feed' type, because they are generally much quieter, but I have a significant amount of softer material to cope with, so I decided to buy another 'slasher' rather than a 'chewer'. I read all the reviews I could find and went for this shredder. I'm hoping that the blades on this one will last longer, they certainly are very good when new.

It was easy to assemble. I started by shredding some elderberry cuttings, about 25mm in diameter. They were a couple of weeks old, so they weren't completely soft, but the machine took them eagerly and didn't mind the knots. The year-old grape vine wood was a bit tougher, but chipped up okay. The hollyhock spears and sundry perennial leaves weren't mashed as finely as they would have been in my old shredders, but I can live with that if it handles the woodier stuff better, which it seems to.

I was surprised that there is no electronic brake (output from the motor out into a 'shunt' when the power goes off), because there was one on my last shredder (an El-Cheapo one from B&Q), but I don't consider it a safety hazard, because it's just about impossible to take the cover off before the blades have stopped turning. I like being able to cut off the power just by pressing the rotary on-off switch.

Lightweight and easier to move than 2 other shredders I have had, but the noise is extremely loud and one needs the ear defenders on without doubt, otherwise ears go kinda numb! Not so good at shredding woody bits small, just reduces them slightly in size and can jam the machine. Easy to unblock and clean. Will carry on using, but would not buy this model again.
