From the manufacturer
The all purpose tool for the all purpose lifestyle.
Instead of buying dedicated gardening tools, the Bosch AMW Multi-tool is a 3 in 1 system which allows you to tackle the key gardening tasks with just one tool. Simply select your 1000 W power unit, pick a task (cut, trim or prune) and choose the right attachment. This particular model includes the power unit and the hedgecutter attachment.
Thanks to the 1000 W power unit, the AMW with hedgecutter attachment storms through stubborn and thick hedges with ease. The system has been designed to provide optimal speed and power no matter what the job. Quiet, lightweight and convenient - AMW is ideal for anyone looking for an alternative to petrol.
With a 43 cm blade the hedgecutter attachment provides a clean, sharp and precise cut every time, saving you time and effort. Easily cut through branches of up to 15 mm in diameter, the perfect hedgecutter for medium sized hedges.
With a 180° angle adjustment, the hedgecutter attachment is ideal for easy overhead cutting on tall hedges or to neaten up the tops. Just push the red lever and twist, it couldn't be simpler to change your working position.
The quick change system enables you to effortlessly change between attachments without the inconvenience of a screwdriver. Change attachments in three easy steps: loosen the adjusting knob, insert the attachment until it clicks in and tighten the adjusting knob. Pole pruner, heavy duty trimmer and extension pole attachments are all available to purchase separately.
The Bosch AMW 10 multi-tool is ergonomically designed and lightweight, the power unit comes with a padded shoulder strap and an adjustable handle for extra comfort whilst working. At just 4.2 kg, the power unit is extremely lightweight and allows you to continue working with minimal strain on your back or arms. The hedgecutter attachment weighs just 2.3 kg giving a total weight of 6.5 kg when combined with the power unit.

The reason I felt the need to write a review for this, is because whilst scouring the internet for a long-reach hedge trimmer, I couldn't find one at a reasonable price that had good reviews (of Course, the Stihl and Husky cutters had glowing reviews, but I wasn't ready to part with £400+ for a Stihl Hedge Trimmer).
I recently bought a Bosch Rotak Lawnmower which I was very pleased with and so my immediate thought was this machine (being the only long reach hedge cutter in the Bosch Range). I checked on Bosch's website and the review score was pretty poor (3/5 average). I checked on Amazon and it was a mixed bag too, 3.5 stars averaged.
A lot of the negative reviews stated "It doesn't cut properly" or "It's too heavy". After 10 minutes of use, I can say that this machine is great and the problems being experienced are 'user error'.
Yes, it is on the heavy side, but for something of this size with a 1000w motor and at this price, what are people expecting? It will be heavy!
I'm 5ft 8", and about 85kg and it's manageable.
I'd also like to point out that if you hold it incorrectly at arms length like many of the reviewers have stated, it will feel even heavier!
Place one hand on the control handle and the other grasping the trigger handle. Use the shoulder strap included - if you can't reach high enough, get the extension pole. If you still can't reach high enough, you should be using a platform.
"It's not very well balanced". Another comment frequently left by other reviewers. If you were using this every single day, for 6-8 hours a day I can see your point, however, if you are planning on maintaining your garden and are not going venturing into a new career of forestry maintenance, then it is fine (if you are a professional, you should probably be looking at a lighter petrol cutter for double the price).
Another argument that it doesn't cut. If you wave this thing around manically like you're auditioning to play the lead in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it probably won't cut well. If you sweep up and down at a medium pace (perhaps covering 1 meter per second), it cuts great.
One reviewer even claimed it wouldn't cut Leylandii and promptly returned the item. To brighten their day, I've attached a photo of the Leylandii trimmings (if I worked for Bosch/Amazon, I would have visited this customer with the item they returned and showed them it working)!
The build quality of the machine is ok. Yes, granted its not made of that weird unbreakable plastic we all remember from the 80's, but by today's standards, it's pretty darn good!
Sure, I could have just paid a few hundred extra to buy a Stihl and I would have avoided the worry of buying a machine with so so reviews, but the reason I chose this was because of the multi-functionality. I have a few large trees in my garden and the pruner attachment will help a great deal.
Would I buy the strimmer attachement? Possibly, once my existing strimmer 'kicks the bucket'.
Overall, if you're looking to cut some high hedges, don't want to spend a crazy amount and you aren't afraid to put in a bit of effort, this machine is definitely worth a look!
Of course that happened outside the return period! Maybe buy from Argos or B&Q rather than mail order, so it would be possible to return or exchange if it does seize.
Didn't want a battery version because the batteries do not last. So 230V mains was the only choice. As far as I can tell you are quite limited with the choice here.
After careful thought I chose the Bosch and I am happy that I did. It was in my budget and performs well. It seems well made and has a 1000w motor, much larger
than the Ryobi which was the only other contender. The pay-off is that it is heavier, but it is easy to use and does chomp through the medium size branches
in my hedge relatively easily. I would recommend this hedge cutter to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on more professional products on the market.

Way, way too heavy to use and, more importantly, it doesn't actually cut!!!Read more
