Product description

Product Description

Born this Way - The Remix is a 14 track collection of remixes of tracks from Lady Gaga's sophomore album by some of today’s most prominent artists, DJs and producers, including Foster the People, Michael Woods and The Weekend.

BBC Review

They're rarely essential, and often a cash-in, but it's tempting to invest this remix album with an additional purpose – whether it's intentional or not. Since its release in May, Lady Gaga's Born This Way album has racked up sales figures only Adele could wrinkle her schnozzle at. Yet somehow, it looks destined to become that most curious of chart beasts: the international unit-shifter that no-one really seems to love. So could this compendium of trendy reinventions – on which the likes of Wild Beasts and The Horrors play Gok Wan with tracks from the original – restore some lustre?

When it comes to retooling those pretty ubiquitous singles, fortune favours the brave. Metronomy swap Shania Twain for Imogen Heap on Yoü and I; The Weeknd and Illangelo put the spook up Marry the Night; and Goldfrapp remodel Judas into a doom-laden industrial stomp. Best of all is Twin Shadow's revamp of the title-track, which is so infectious and 80s-sounding that Molly Ringwald would declare it “bitchin'!”. On the flip, Foster the People and Canadian house duo Sultan & Ned Shepard make the same mistake with The Edge of Glory, both turning in a fairly predictable club banger makeover.

Elsewhere, surprises come when the album's lesser-known gems are given a grind, spit and polish. The Horrors turn Bloody Mary into vampire disco floor-filler, while Two Door Cinema Club almost make Electric Chapel sound like a collaboration between Gaga and Hot Chip. Moments like these offer a welcome reminder that Born This Way isn't short of tunes – or, for all its mega-pop bombast, a shot or two of oddness.

Of course, most of what's here already appears on sundry download bundles and CD singles, so it's easy to dismiss Born This Way: The Remix as, yes, inessential and, yes, a cash-in. But taken as a whole, this release offers enough revelations to suggest the original album is worth revisiting. That additional purpose, whether intentional or not, feels at least partly fulfilled.

I'm a bit disappointed of this compilation. While there are some nice remixes, most of the tracks are boring club remixes that repeat over and over only few words of the song. The best remixes in my opinion are those who really give a new twist to the original song (like "Marry the Night" (The Weeknd & Illangelo remix), "Judas" (Goldfrapp remix) and "Born This Way" (Twin Shadow remix)) or remixes that are funny to dance ("Scheisse" Guena LG Club remix)). The rest of songs in this compilation are very boring, cutting away most of the appeal of the original songs. I preferred the first remixes collection by Lady Gaga.

It's very difficult to criticise the musical powerhouse that is Gaga, given that she does produce EXCEPTIONALLY good pop songs and rarely fails to hit the mark, but this album is really something that only diehard Monsters would appreciate. The lyrics of the remixes may be the same, but a lot of them lack the "stick in your head" catchiness of the original versions. Whilst it's interesting to hear different interpretations of the music, and to discover how up-tempo tracks can be turned into ballads or different music genres entirely, there aren't really any stand-out tracks on here and certainly nothing that warrants more than a couple of listens to. It's more experimental than the music Gaga has become famous for, and this would probably have been better as part of a 2-disc special version of the album rather than a standalone CD, but if you're looking to explore the many different facets of Gaga as an artist then this album is as good a place as any to start.

This Remix album is great version of Lady GaGa's 2nd studio album "Born This Way". The opening remix of "Born This Way" is the same-titled single which was remixed by Zedd. Zedd did great job on remixing the track and made the song even more club playable. If you search for good club/dance music you should buy that compilation. If you are a DJ and you are searching for a good remixes you should get the remixes from this album. The "Judas" remixes (from Goldfrapp and Hurts) are really original and sound really different from the album version. The remixes for "The Edge Of Glory" (by Foster The People and Sultan & Ned Shepard) are just made for the clubs! Maybe you should probably skip the "You And I" remixes (by Wild Beasts and Metronomy), but you should definitely hear "The Weeknd and Illangelo" remix for the single "Marry the night", which is really great. I would skip just one more remix - the remix for "Bloody Mary" (by The Horrors). The remixes for Black Jesus (by Michael Woods), Scheisse (Guena LG) and Americano (by Gregori Klosman) have the perfect sound for a House party. The "Electric Chapel" remix (by Two Door Cinema Club) is really interesting representation of the original version and you should hear it. The Twin Shadow remix for "Born This Way" brings retro sound to the song. Great Remix album with great sound!

I was looking forward to this, I love Gaga and really liked most of Born This Way, but seriously, this remix album is really, really dire. The remixes don't add anything new to the tunes, and in fact in most cases just kill them stone dead, and for such a varied and interesting mix of songs as Born This Way, the treatment is uniformally dreary. Seriously Gaga, did you even listen to this before it went out? Some fans will buy anything, and that's fine, but unless you are someone who must have every last artefact of Gaga's, you can give this a miss and you won't be missing anything.

I love lady gaga, she is an absolute genius and the most exciting thing to happen to music in 20 years.

Born this way was an amazing album and i loved it and so i was eager to get this.

HOWEVER

It sucks, big time.

The album makes my ears bleed, im not a fan of hardcore dance music and all this remix rubbish but stupidly thought that because it was her it would be cool.

I was wrong, im sending mine back so if i was you id listen to all the samples 1st or try and listen to the songs in their entirety on itunes before buying it and wasting your money.

I honestly dont have anything positive to say about it at all, im sure any kid with a mixing deck and a laptop could of done a better job.

Sorry mother monster but this is garbage !!

I'm personally, not a massive fan of remixes, they normally ruin songs, by dragging them out to over 6/7 minutes in length and playing the same monotonous beat, So I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this album, most of the songs are around the four minute mark expect the "The Edge Of Glory" remixes which are spectacular regardless of them being around 6 minutes long.

I think it's definitely worth a listen, lots of different producers have remixed the tracks, ranging from European Duo "Hurts" (who have done an amazing job on Judas) to American indie band Foster The Kicks, so no two remixes sound the same.
