Review

“The book grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. A thriller with a message about our politicians, law enforcement and our war on drugs. It is just good story telling. I am waiting for the next in the series.” -- Barbara M.,Sebastopol, CA

“I rarely read fiction but couldn't put this down. Character development was great; the plot was meaty and twisty. And it really captured the culture of the US southwest and ofthe business of journalism.” --Margaret Z., Tucson, AZ

“What a great book, complete with complex murder mysteries political intrigue. Eichstaedt takes you from DC to the hills of Mexico, and involves people from wealthiest to the poorest. I kept coming back to find out what would happen next. I thoroughly recommend it. I can't wait to see where Kyle (Dawson) goes next." -- S., Dallas, TX

“I am a tough critic of fiction, I am a non-fiction reader. This book was well developed and engaging. Nothing seemed too far beyond the scope of today's Mexican drug lords. I hope for most who will not read this book that it will be picked up and made in to a film, preferably by Tarantino, Russell, or Scott.” -- N., Santa Fe, NM

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and furious - a great read! 19 July 2015
By Barbara Mulvaney - Published on Amazon.com

The book grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. The plot is complex and thoughtful but still moves very quickly - A thriller with a message about our politicians, law enforcement and our war on drugs. An international war correspondent comes back to the US after Iraq and Afghanistan and finds himself trying to get to the bottom of his fathers murder in the desert border area of New Mexico. I have worked as an international prosecutor and a prosecutor in New Mexico and the author's background work is spot on. He captures the complex problems that have ripped apart Mexico and the SW region of the US. He thoughtfully explores the people caught in the crossfire and targets those policy makers that perpetuate the problem. I would like the author to take Kyle Dawson and write a series based on the non fiction books he has already written. I much prefer getting my world affairs through a novel - it takes a bit of sugar to help the medicine go down. It is just good storytelling - I am now waiting for the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating, informative tale! 27 Aug. 2015
By Jodie Renner - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Peter Eichstaedt has created a fascinating, complex character in journalist Kyle Dawson, who becomes embroiled in a dangerous world of international intrigue, Mexican drug cartels, and corrupt U.S. politicians -- a world of power, greed and ruthlessness. Yet Dawson, fighting for justice, manages to retain his humanity, and his struggles make him realize how important family is. Moving us through New Mexico, into Mexico, and beyond, Eichstaedt takes us on a nail-biting ride as we root for Dawson and his two close friends, one a DEA special agent, and the other a former girlfriend who has gotten herself in hot water. We find ourselves hoping against hope that they can stop the evil crime bosses and insidious politicians before they themselves become victims.
With his background as an international journalist and award-winning nonfiction author, Eichstaedt is a writer you can trust to get his facts right. He’s definitely been there, done that, and knows how to weave facts into a riveting international thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and well plotted 8 Nov. 2015
By novemberday - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this on a recommendation of a friend who had worked in the NM district attorney's office. I am a tough critic of fiction, I am a non-fiction reader. This book was well developed and engaging. Nothing seemed too far beyond the scope of today's Mexican drug lords. I hope for most who will not read this book that it will be picked up and made into a film, preferably by Tarantino. Russell, or Scott.

The book had moments that were full of suspense, but it seemed to drag in parts of the book. The story line was interesting and it seemed like it could have been developed more to give it more suspense. I wouldn't rush out and purchase the book, but if you have some time on hand and want to read a book you might try this book.
