They think all their dreams have come true until reality bites and the ‘sunny’ holiday they had been thinking of ends up being a sodden, bad hair job. Still, it doesn’t matter because Holly is loved up and Paige … isn’t but that is about to change ... If that isn’t enough, an aged romance novelist bedecked in pink, complete with teeny dog and larger than life personality and their hero heartthrob rock star are both there signing books! Suddenly life is very exciting for the teenagers who are about to embark on an adventure.
Fun and games and slapstick comedy with the Bookshop Girls, this is a fab little book that one will consume easily and quickly at less than 200 pages. From the cartoony style cover to the contents inside you will feel as if you are at the book festival with them every step of the way.
This is for the younger person, granted, but I enjoyed it and the reader gets to know and love the characters, young and old alike. I kind of knew I’d like it when Paige mentions she likes charity shops – a girl after my own heart. And, again, souvenir shops were always a love of mine as a teenager and this is where she meets her local ’fittie’, Robbie. ‘We have stepped into a glistening palace of tat’. Brilliant!
They also learn some of life’s tougher lessons along the way but they’re besties, and therefore they can get through anything together.
If you like shopping, the seaside, and books, you will love this. Congrats to the author who also designed the front cover. This is a book that will appeal to many as it’s fun from start to finish. And don’t forget to check out the last few pages of Paige Turner’s ‘sketch book’ which contain funny illustrations and her check list for things to do. Love, love, love.
Although very short this is a book packed full of humour and a joy not only of life but of books. Perceived wisdom has it that you should write about what you know and this seems to hold true for Chloe Coles - she loves books and it shows. Although she would hate me - I dog ear books, I crack their spines, but I love them. Even worse, I have a major e-reader habit so I don't frequent bookshops more than 5 or 6 times a year.
Like the first in the series this book is narrated by Paige and is full of the little things that are important to a teenage girl. Getting that perfect selfie, finding the perfect chip shop with the best chips and meeting your hero - even if the hero turns out to be a disappointment you still HAVE to.
Initially I found the character of Lady Minnie to be a disturbing mix of Dame Barbara Cartland (real) and Dame Sally Markham (fictional Little Britain character). However, as we begin to see more of her through Paige's eyes she becomes less of a caricature (and a monstrous one at that) and more of a clever woman who knows how to market herself and get what she wants.
This is a fun read and even though I am way outside the target audience I genuinely loved it. A good story should captivate and that is what this one does!

Just like in her first book, Chloe's writing is very humorous and had me laughing out loud on several occasions. There are so many funny moments that showcase Chloe's true talent for comedic writing. It really was a joy to read, even with the cringey moments in there.
It was great to read more about characters that had already been introduced in the previous book, building on their personalities and following them through another book-related adventure. I enjoyed where this book took place, it was a nice setting to read about at the end of the summer.
I'm not going to say too much more about it because I don't want to end up spoiling anything if you haven't yet read the first book.
I enjoyed this book so much. A book about books is just what you need sometimes and when I picked this up it was exactly the kind of book I needed to read. I definitely recommend this for a funny, enjoyable read, but obviously make sure that you read Bookshop Girl first.
I'm also excited that there's a little announcement on the last page to let you know that there will be a third book coming soon. I can't wait to see what happens with Paige next, especially as it says it will be set in Paris!
