Having picked this up in the library and suffering from a lack of enthusiasm about my own writing career, I approached this book with some caution. Having now completed the book I can honestly say that I am a fan of Jeff Vandermeer. This book is based on blog entries and sometimes it shows with its non-linear style, but that in no way deters from what is a fantastically up to date and relevant book about authorship in the 21st Century. Mr Vandermeer discusses the relative pitfalls and bonuses of using platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Blogspot, Wordpress, Myspace to promote your writing career, likening the journey to that of the modern musician who has to use on-line platforms to promote their music. I found this book extremely informative, with some great advice, tips and andecdotes. The author allows us entry into his own writing journey, and in doing so it feels as if a metaphorical hand is guiding the reader through the sights of on-line promotion. Booklife is a lifeline for me at the moment and before the words offered by Mr Vandermeer I felt as if I was drowning in a cyberspace sea. Now I feel energised to continue my own writing journey and that is all down to Jeff Vandermeer and his important book.
