From the Back Cover
The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage--originally published in 1900, translated by Samuel Mathers from a 15th-century French document--was purportedly written by Abraham for his son Lamech. Within this volume are three books.
The first book is Abraham's autobiography in which he speaks to his son. The second book is an explanation of the purification rituals necessary to bring the magician's personal demon under his control. And the third book details what feats can be accomplished once the practitioner is able to use a form of magic controlled and directed through sigils of magic words written on a grid.
Anyone with an interest in the occult will find this an interesting, though perhaps impractical, guide for exploring mystic arts.
British magician and eccentric SAMUEL LIDDELL MACGREGOR MATHERS (1854-1918) also wrote The Key of Solomon the King (Clavicula Salomonis) and The Kabbalah Unveiled.
About the Author
S. L. MacGregor Mathers (1854-1918) was a prominent scholar and leader of the occult movement in Britian at the turn of the century. A life-long fascination with mysticism and Celtic symbolism led Mathers to hold high office in the Rosicrucian Society of England, and eventually to become a founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He is also well known for having been a key tutor to Aleister Crowley. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Fortunatly there are others who also translate old books and take it much more seriously. So if you want the complete version of this book I would suggest you buy this one instead "The Book of Abramelin by Abraham Von Worms" "ISBN-10: 089254127X".
The most potent system for spiritual evolution available to the western mind. Its potency lies in its simplicity. Weather the concepts are regarded as subjective or objective this six month ritual works.
It concerns a long period of focusing the Will and Imagination to culminate in the divine union with your "Holy Gaurdian Angel". Please be warned, this book is NOT for beginners. Failure in completion of the ritual successfuly can results in devastating consequenses, with macrocosmic tidal waves. I highly recommend reading as many books as you can lay your hands on before even going near "Abramelin" but especially Dion Fortunes "Mystical Qabbalah" followed by Israel Regardies "Tree of Life", these books read and understood with give a very solid grounding to build upon. Please, please look before you leap.
The system presented here marks one of the major changes in the post-Christian European magical tradition, moving it from a simple level of sorcery and placing it on par with Yoga as a means for spiritual progress. Not for the light-hearted occultnik, it is an extensive set of workings.
Mathers believed in the malevolent forces to such an extent that he advised caution 'against the dangerous automatic nature of certain of the Magical Squares of the Third Book; for, if left carelessly about, they are very liable to obsess sensitive persons, children and animals'. He also went as far as to say that even owning the book could bring about serious disturbances and even harm to the individual. Crowley says in his 'Confessions' that 'the demons connected with Abra-Melin do not wait to be evoked, they come unsought'. I can't confirm this, but I can't deny it either, and for some who are not serious students of the occult and believe it to be just 'harmless twaddle', it can lead to very real unspeakable torment and therefore it should not be underestimated. This is dark and dangerous stuff indeed!
