As basic kettles go, this one from the Bonsenkitchen range is as good as any I've ever used, and I'm 64 years old, so I've used a fair few at home/work. I like that the body is mainly made of stainless steel, with a black plastic handle that's easy to hold and pour with. On top of the handle is a quick-release button for opening the plastic lid. The spout features a removable inner nylon limescale filter. On the outside of the kettle is a translucent water gauge, which clearly shows the level of water contained within - various black markings are displayed: (Min) 0.5L, 1.0L, 1.5L and (Max)1.7L. I do like how the power base features an area for storing and hiding away any loose power cable, thus making the kettle look much neater when it's sitting on your kitchen worktop.
Before using, it is advisable to fill the kettle to maximum and boil, then empty and repeat the process. It's a doddle to use: simply put your desired amount of water in, close the lid, place kettle on its power base, and press down the lever switch. The switch features a bright white light, when it has boiled the switch and light automatically turn off. The inbuilt auto shut-off means you reassuringly can't accidentally leave the kettle to boil dry. At its 1.7 Litre capacity this will boil enough water to fill 5 average mugs, or 8 average cups. This has a 2200W rating, so although it's described as a quick boil kettle, you can't expect it to be quite as fast as those with a 3000W rating (which are usually more expensive). I found it took 58 secs to boil 235ml of water (enough for an average mug of tea/coffee) - and that's good enough for me. I find it ironic that many people invest their hard-earned money in more expensive fast-boil kettles, then almost fill them up when they're only making two cuppas - thereby wasting electricity, and allowing the kettle to take longer than is necessary to reach its boil! By the way, it's worth mentioning that this kettle has a claimed 15000 use lifecycle, so should last a careful owner many years.
This kettle comes in a glossy branded box, so would be presentable if you were thinking of purchasing it as a gift for someone.
