Book Description

Late-war Luftwaffe Me 262 jet bomber and reconnaissance operations struck fear into the Allies, as the speed of the world's first jet warplane made the aircraft all but untouchable in these missions.

Anything by these two authors has to be taken seriously, and this is no different. All late war Luftwaffe enthusiasts will enjoy this book which features the misguided attempts to use the Me 262 as a bomber and the superb effective reconnaissance machine it also became. I have given five stars because the content is so well written, the profiles very well done. But I dislike all the Osprey books for their pathetically small format which result in small photos and cramped pages.

Up to expected Osprey standard. Some interesting pilot accounts (although never enough for me!), and some new photo's. The chapter on reconnaissance was particularly interesting. I collect Osprey Luftwaffe books anyway, but I think a good addition to the range, and of course you save!

I finished this book earlier tonight. It read like a daily diary, detailing the combat activities of the various Luftwaffe units which flew the ME 262 jet ('Schwalbe' = Swallow) as a bomber/ground attack aircraft and in the reconnaissance role on the Western Front during 1944 and 1945. On all the whole, a very good book. Fascinating stuff.

MY MISTAKE! I JUMPED INTO THIS WITHOUT REALISING WHAT THIS WOULD BE ABOUT! I'M MORE INTERESTED IN ACTION SIDE OF THE ME 262 RATHER THAN THE TECHNICAL STUFF - WHICH IS REALLY FOR THE EXPERTS.
