This is a book that is easy to read giving facts but also insights of a great man. I would recommend it to any one interested in flying , the RAF and or the second world war

This is a great true story of a remarkable man and his leadership abilities. Really brings alive just what it must have been like to be a bomber pilot during WW2.

What an Oddyssey a triumph this book is a salute to an accomplished airman who could have avoided his fate and had it easy during wartime. Instead he volunteered for Bomber Command and flew countless missions all over the Europe and North Africa leading the recruits who needed his kind of guidance and inspiration to keep going to the wars end.

A comprehensive, detailed and well written biography of an extraordinary man. Written by somebody who knew and served with him it gives an insight into many aspects of the early 20th Century, sadly culminating in Don Saville's death over Hamburg in July 1943.

Initially confused as the book starts with you meeting the subjects parents but as I read further I understood why you needed to know about the parents as this gives the reader the background information as to where the subject gained his love of flying and attitude to others. Really enjoyed following the life and career of Don Saville but would have liked to have had a bit more information in regard to the missions he took part in. Worth a read but need to bear in mind there is little detail in relation to his war time missions, a lot are just listed with date and target.

An excellent read about one of the many fantastic heros in Bomber Command. These guys were something else, their courage night after night is just awe inspiring. Don was no exception! His family must be very proud.

This is the story of Don Saville's life, about how he got into flying, and about how he'd accrued a vast experience of flying even before he got onto the big bombers. Years of flying airliners in Australia meant he sometimes had more hours in his logbook than his instructors. His tragic fate is detailed in the first chapter, the rest of the book details his time in the RAF reserve, then airline work and then back into the RAF and his fateful time in Bomber Command. An excellent book.
