About the Author

This series is the work of Bill Chorley who was born in Taunton, educated at Ilminster Grammar School and joined the Royal Air Force in 1955, wherein he served in ground communications until 1960. In that same year he joined the Civil Service, since when his general interest in aviation has developed into detailed research into the history of Bomber Command.

I bought this book only to complete the set, but looking at this thick tome with each page part of a list of those who gave their lives brings it home to you how many people made the ultimate sacrifice for their countries, and how many broken families they must have left behind. As a researcher into aircraft this book is of less interest to me than others in the series, but if you are researching personnel losses in Bomber Command then you will find it invaluable.

This is the definitive reference book and easily exceeds the previous first edition. A master class of research and detail, if this sets the tone for the forth coming volumes these will be "classic must have" books.

Simply brilliant !!!

For anyone who is interested in studying RAF history, whether he is a seasoned historian, or
completely new to it, should have a copy of every volume in the Bomber Command series. Mr
W.R.Chorley has done an excellent job of recording the losses suffered by Bomber Command
during World War II.

Format: Paperback
This publication exceeded my expectations on Bill Chorley's previous work - the update to these early years is very comprehensive and a must for any serious researcher. I for one look forward to the updates for the other loss years. It is still very worthwhile purchase if you have already purchased the previous edition, so much more information with PoW info also listed on each loss as well as the resting place listed for those killed.
