After much messing about with the hub's settings and no success, I decided to try this Bolse adapter supplied to me for review. As others have said, it's easy to assemble (screw on 2 antennae and plug in the supplied USB cable), and the software installs smoothly with clear instructions provided. I downloaded the manual from the Bolse website (mybolse.com) as I found the supplied instruction a little small for my eyesight. Incidentally a range of the latest drivers are available on the website too.
I reset the hub back to its default settings and the adapter found the modem easily. A few clicks later, all connected; job done. In the month since this device has been installed the computer has connected every time (yippee!) and that's all my parents ever wanted.
I don't know why the pci cards wouldn't provide a reliable connection, and I did try pretty well everything with both the hub and the computer. It would connect via Ethernet, but wireless was the aim and thanks to this adapter that's exactly what my parents have now: a faster reliable connection that connects each and every time. Marvellous!

→ I tested the Bolse® Newly Designed 300Mbps Wifi Wireless-N USB Mini Adapter with a desktop I have in the upstairs office. While my desktop is perfect as it is with all the specs I need, it's not standard for a desktop computer to have a wireless card. This adapter has allowed me to connect that desktop to my router and network wirelessly, without the need to string Ethernet cable all over the house. This adapter would also work great with a notebook if you wanted to upgrade from B/G connectivity to N.
→ The system I used this adapter with is running Windows 8 - 64 bit. Install and set up was really easy and simple. The package includes a mini-CD with all the drivers necessary for the adapter, and you can also get them from the manufacture website, if necessary. With Windows 8, this adapter is plug and play and I had it setup in just a couple minutes.
→ Considering the distance from router, and my desktop system performance; I feel this wireless adapter works really well and gives me the speeds I should get. Connecting to a wireless N router, I was able to see speeds from 150mbps to 300mbps, so the unit does deliver the performance it promises. I would like to add, I have tested the unit with a Windows 7 system and it was simple and easy to install and get working there as well, just needed to install the drivers from the CD.
→ Overall, I'm like the Bolse Wireless-N USB Mini Adapter and have found it to deliver great results.Read more ›
I was really happy to get this micro WiFi USB stick because I have a couple of older or low-power computers that did not come with native WiFi connectivity. The WiFi stick comes with a small CD which contains all the necessary drives for my computer. I installed the drivers on my old Windows 7 machine and with that the USB stick was recognized immediately. I don't have much need for a WiFi on that computer (it's a desktop permanently connected with an ethernet cable), but it's good to know that it could use WiFi connectivity if the need ever arises.
Next I tried connecting the adapter to my diminutive Raspberry Pi computer. To my surprise and delight the adapter was immediately recognized and started working on the spot. Raspberry Pi is a bare-bones computer that requires a lot of add-ons in order to get some of the rudimentary functionality of the "regular" sized computers. It does come with a dedicated ethernet jack, but connecting it to ethernet can sometimes be awkward. Its ultra-small size makes it an ideal wireless computer, and a micro WiFi adapter like this one is a perfect accessory for it.
The range and speed of this small card are impressive. I was able to get online throughout my house, and even immediately outside of it. (I do have the latest powerful Netgear WiFi router though.) I was able to stream the high-def online content to it without a glitch. So far I have only had the best of experiences with it and would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive and reliable WiFi adapter.
