They have shaved a lot of time of my work outs and, especially if you're doing something like P90X or circuit training, you can expect to save a lot of time because you won't constantly be changing plates.
The weight change mechanism is simple and relatively safe to use... Although this is perhaps the one area the weights could be improved.
The mechanism is plastic and would be better if it was slightly more solid but it doesn't feel to flimsy - the inner working of it are metal at least, it's just the dials which are not.
Weights are selected by depressing a little red button on each dumbell and turning the dial to the desired weight. The total weight is clearly marked, making selection easy, and I think this is a better system than on. Som either selectable dumbells (although I've never used them myself) like the pullout bars on powerblocks and the latch system on other sets.
You also get a good range of weight with these dumbells going all the way up to 32KG. That's significantly more than other sets and works out a lot cheaper than, say, buying a set of stage 1 and stage 2 Powerblocks. The weight increments that are selectable are listed for you at the bottom of this review.
I like the look of them too. They are a kind of copy of the Bowflex weights, but again I think these are slightly better because although they might not look quite as cool they are actually better quality and better to use. I say this because they are a bit shorter in length than the Boxflex weights and the plates are made from metal not plastic.Read more ›
use a spray of GT85 or similar lubricant to overome any initial stickyness issues, which can lead to sore toes or damaged flooring if you are not ready for it, look at the remaining weight disks in the tray as you remove the handles, if they are not symmetrical, ie, same at both ends, you have a sticky disk & a potential problem, gently bounce the weighted handle on a mat, carpeted floor, etc & the offending disk will drop off safely.
bells do rattle a bit on the quicker moves, but you just get used to it.
stand is v solid, and wheels work well on hardflooring.
i use a spare bench to place the bells on between sets when i'm not changing weights, and for after the last set when nearing exhaustion, as it's sometimes a bit fiddly getting 'em back in place, & you don't want to be having that issue when your arms feel like jelly.
may seem pricey, but when you consider what you are getting in terms of multiple different weight, time saving during workouts, space saving if you are in a home gym, its got to be worth the investment for a piece of kit that should last a good while with the help of a little lubricating maintenance.
The range of possible weights is great and is easy to use. I did have problem when I first chose a selection, as one of the small end weights did fall out. I belive this happend because the lock wasn't down properly. this hasn't happened again so must have just been a fluke.
In order to change the weight selection, there is a red thumb button that needs to be pushed; then you can turn the knob to your required weight.
The handle fits the hand very nicely and is made of rubber and steel, the only plastic parts on it are the weight dial knob, but even this is well made.
I find that they feel really good when doing chest type workouts on the bench. As for curling the weights they do jingle a bit, in that they are not tightly locked and have maybe 1mm of give. I therefore turn them at a angle to try and stop the jiggle of the weights.
Not bad for the price.
Im am so glad I hit that order button now. You get some much weight without all the space needed with traditional weights.
Im an experienced gym queen and when Im home in the UK for 3 or 4 weeks I get sick of going the gym and waiting for blurts to finish with weights when they are not even using them.
If you get these, a good pull up bar, bench and maybe a dip station you will have everything you need if you know what your doing.
Good quality and so simple and easy to use or should I say set up lol if they was easy to use then something is wrong with your workout ;)
Brilliant buy and well worth the cost
