The French Press coffee maker designed in the fifties and still produced it with the same careful craftsmanship used way back with the original. The frame and lid, made of steel, undergo several chrome plating processes to obtain a durable shiny surface that will last after intense use. The only difference in the production process since the fifties is the commitment to the highest standards of environmentally correct manufacturing, which is important during the chrome plating process. The black Chambord polypropylene handle comes in a matte finish that not only gives a comfortable grip while serving but adds to the high quality of the design.
The French press system has always been the simplest way of brewing a cup of coffee. The French press lets the coffee beans develop their complete aroma so it doesn't come as a surprise that it is the brewing method of choice for coffee tasters trying to determine quality beans.
CHAMBORD is a true original – the classic French press coffee maker designed in the fifties. And we still produce it with the same painstaking craftsmanship we used way back when with the original. Using fresh coarse ground beans with water between 92 and 96 degrees brings out the very best in all types of coffee.See all Product description

Anyway, the size is just perfect for my needs, enough to share with a friend and not too big that I would struggle to lug it around!
The quailty and finnish is pefect and after a few uses I can see that this one will stay with me for a while with out fault!
Bravo Bodum, Awesome!
Why does it have a design limitation?
Like the original, first cafetieres it suffers from the beaker having a steel frame. Why is this important? Because when the very hot (never boiling) water is poured in, the steel frame gripping the glass draws the heat away, particularly if the carafe hasn't been warmed beforehand, resulting in the coffee rapidly cooling in the 4mins it needs to infuse. The result is a less flavoursome brew in addition to the liquor not being piping hot - important to emulsify the ideal thick Jersey gold top milk! (even cream).
The frame is, today a pretty, if limiting design when a plastic frame can be used.
This can be worked around somewhat if the beaker is prewarmed.
Better to buy the modern versions with phenolic or thermally resistant polypropylene frames such as the types in the other Bodum range.
For butterfingers, Bodum also make cafetieres with shatter-resistant polycarbonate beakers, though borosilicate glass is always the best option for abrasion/heat resistance and inertness.
Perhaps a good idea if you own a cafe, as it encourages customers to drink the coffee and go before it cools! Also, consider a larger one, as you'll get barely a mugful with this one.
Bodum just came up with a newer version of this Chambord with a flat base rather than the orginal 4 legged steel base.Bodum Chambord Coffee Press / Cafetiere 3 Cup Chrome
This latest update comes with a lid that closes off the spout which makes the Chambord spill-proof should it get knocked over. It also makes for better temperature control.
If I were you, I would bet my money on the newer Chambord rather than this one.Bodum Chambord Coffee Press / Cafetiere 3 Cup Chrome
I know it tells you the size and everything, but you don't actually realise how little it is until you try it. I use a 'normal' (i.e. not big) cappucino cup for my coffee, and this produced enough coffee to fill it (sans milk) about one and a half times.
I have not quite got the grind coarseness right with my Krups grinder, and my first cuppa was a little muddy, but this is no reflection on the press, merely a pointer to the fact that you do need to use very coarsely ground coffee.
In summary it is everything it tells you it is, and only my lack of repeated use is stopping me giving it a 5.
This Bodum has everything I loved about my larger one. Sturdy design, easy to use, large handle that makes pouring easy. Really nice.
