The Bodi-Tek SAD Light has been developed to help Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a condition which can affect all ages, men and women alike. Symptoms vary, and are often referred to as the “winter blues”. The lack of natural light at any time of the year may cause SAD. The Bodi-Tek SAD Light is a medically certified light box to use when treating the symptoms of SAD, which may include: change in appetite or weight, lack of energy, diminishing sex drive, body aches or pains, low self-esteem, sleep problems, loss of memory, inability to make decisions, depression/mood swings, llack of concentration/interest.
Blue Spectrum Light
Most SAD lights produce white with a spectrum of 450 nm to 700 nm. Blue spectrum light is light in the 450 nm to 500 nm part of the spectrum.
Recent studies have indicated that SAD lights using blue spectrum light technology may be more effective at treating of the symptoms of SAD as you need less light. This makes the comparison with older light box technology confusing, as lower levels of output can be equally effective.
The Bodi-Tek SAD Light peaks at 460 nm in the blue spectrum, potentially making it more effective than those using older technology but with higher lux levels.
At source, the Bodi-Tek SAD Light produces over 10,000 lux. Placing the lamp 30c m away will provide +2500 lux – making it ideal for use on your desk or next to where you reading or working.
How to Use SAD Light
Simply position the Bodi-Tek SAD Light about 30 cm away from you, directing the light towards your face, but slightly offset. Adjust the timer and brightness to suit. (It is OK to look into the light every now and then, but do not look into the light continuously). Typically 15-60 minutes of exposure a day is sufficient for most people, however, you may use your light as often as you want.
- Try to co-ordinate usage with your natural biological clock, namely between 6am and 8pm
- You can obviously use the Bodi-Tek SAD Light at other times of the day, but research has shown that morning use is most beneficial
- Use the Bodi-Tek SAD LIGHT on at least five successive days at roughly the same time, you can then repeat the programme as often as you feel you need to
How to Use

Switch on by holding the On/Off/ Mode button down for at least two seconds. The lights will turn on at 75% of the maximum brightness. (See Setting Brightness)

Using the Advanced Settings

Pressing the Mode button a second time will select the timer function. The centre LED will flash. Use the + and – buttons to adjust the time.

Mode 3: Setting Fade In/Out
Pressing the mode button a third time allows you to adjust the time taken to reach your selected brightness and fade out at the end of a timed session.
The right LED will flash. Press the + and – buttons to increase/decrease the fade time (up to a maximum of six minutes). This time is indicated by the six central LEDs. If you do not require the Fade Mode please select the 7th LED.
Please note that this option is not available if the ‘run continuously’ setting has been selected in Mode Two. To finish, either leave the unit for five seconds or press the mode button again. The settings and timings are for your convenience and do not alter the treatment.

The dispatch was really good I ordered the item and received it two days later very well packaged and I would use Amazon again.
This is just brilliant. I use it in the darker months for 20mins or so a day and it just completely revitalises me. It "feels like summer" all year round. Very, very pleased with product & shocked that it actually does work.
Due to the confusion I seem to have caused for one or two people, I feel I should update this review to take certain things into consideration.
This listing was COMPLETELY different at the time of my review just over a year ago, it now contains more information and the correct brand name for the lamp on display at the top of the page. In fact if you read my review, you will see I quote the description given at the time of my review, this is no longer on the page.....
The reviews on this page could be for either of two lamps....perhaps even more over the time period....who knows! Certainly there was another product on amazon at the time sharing the exact same reviews.
My original review (below)was merely to provide information which the page (at the time) did not. If this is the same lamp as I was sent, the information given on the box should be the same re the lux:distance
Firstly I will explain the title as I find this pretty misleading. Firstly The lamp is labelled as the RIO SAD lamp, at the time of my purchase the pic is of a black lamp, oval-ish in shape with three buttons on the front and the word/s Bodi-Tek. I assumed this was a branch of RIO or perhaps a logo they use on these lights. The truth is this lamp is nothing to do with RIO from what I can tell on the box...I have not even opened it yet (and may not) because the box does tell you the next complaint I have....however, there is another retailer on amazon selling this lamp with this description and sharing these reviews and the picture is of a white rectangular light which looks like it is a flat box like maybe a dvd case. This is why I ask "Which lamp is everyone actually reviewing?"
On to my next complaint....Read more ›
As a sufferer of SAD it seems to make a difference so I am enjoying it!
So, winter has set in, in gloomy, rainy London. I have moved into a large room with a horrible tube light, that makes my head hurt. There is also a "regular" bulb lamp, but they aren't great either ; it produce a horrible yellow/orange light, that's weak.
I have used some duct tape to attach it to the wall near my desk, above eye-level. (It's quite light so it duct tape works just fine. It's above eye level as it (obviously) hurts your eyes if you look straight at it. It's actually an incredibly good simulation of daylight. The range is pretty small though, so probably I'm going to get another one to illuminate another corner of my room.
I wish I had bought one of these much, much sooner.
