The review title say it all, This is music from an underated composer who was a skilled professional cello player. It may not have the depth of the better known Bach sonatas but is still well worth a listen. His style is different to Bachs feeling much lighter in touch much more expressive in feeling, but that is not to damn it with faint praise as it grows on you the more you listen to it. There isn't a single piece on these cds, over 4 hours worth, that doesn't have a wonderful melody or driving rhythm either to make you smile or stamp your feet. For some strange reason I likened it to the sonatas of Biber, anybody out there who can enlighten me to why this is please do let me know. It is difficult to find out much about these works, this is a pity as they are not well known and would benefit from a more detailed booklet. Fair to say at this price it's unreasonable to expect everything.
The performances seem very good to my ears, They are played in the style of that period and there is nothing ponderous about the playing.
The recording is a touch reverberant but that didn't cause me any issues with enjoying the music.
That sums this set up, if you like the cello the get these cds and enjoy. You'll thank me for it.

Boccherini è sempre grande!
These "Mailander sonate" are very pleasant and well played. Boccherini's music is always charming, even if there are some difficulties to consider him a "classical" author. But you had better trying to follow his thematic weaving and enjojing for his sound rather than classify his style! And we must say "Bravo Puxeddu!"

Absoluta calidad de sonido y de interpretación. Son unos cuartetos muy refrescantes y recomendables con un sonido barroco profundo y excelente.
