A really good read full of loads of interesting and usefull stuff. Although aimed at an ocean going audience there is a lot here of great relevance for us coastal sailors, and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Would benefit from a bit of colour in both illustrations and pictures and is a little americanised in places and a UK version in colour would really take some beating.
Calder has written a superb authoritative book that is essential reading before and during any cruising venture, especially offshore. I like his style of writing and rate the information dispensed 10/10. I have to agree however with the other review about the pictures. they are poor quality and b&w and I find it difficult to locate items on them described in the text beside. Quality colour pictures and diagrams would make this 5 star.
Well, I agree with all those other posts about this book. It's a great book, covering a wide variety of topics in a technical but understandable fashion. Beware though, it is a CRUISING manual, so it's focussed on people wanting to go offshore for longer periods of time (so not really day/weekend/holiday sailors).
