A thrilling conclusion to an emotional story.
I’ve been a fan of this author since reading Always you which was the first book I ever read on my kindle so I always look forward to any releases she has. This duet is quite dark and the subjects may be triggers for some people so read with caution.
Anna and Ashton have both developed deep feelings for each other and living together, attending college and going on regular fake dates brings them closer every day. Anna has always thought that her father was being too overprotective of her but as the court date gets nearer; she begins to imagine life without Ashton and realises that although she still loves Jack, she’s in love with Ashton and doesn’t want to go back to a life without him.
Just as Anna was starting to get her life back she learns some devastating news; Cater got off and he’s free. After recently learning the reasons her father has been so overprotective, Anna knows that Carter is coming for her and won’t let anyone get in the way of reuniting him with his princess. The thought of losing someone else she loves prompts her to do the only thing she can to save Ashton’s life, she begs her father who is now president to have him reassigned, no questions asked.
Ashton is devastated when he’s escorted by fellow agents to the airport where he’s put on a flight to LA and although his best friend and roommate Nate tries, nothing will cheer him up during the weeks that follow with no contact from Anna. When he learns that Anna has been kidnapped he vows to do everything he can to save the woman he loves, even if that means giving up his life.
I really enjoyed Anna and Ashton’s story. Ashton is so lovable and swoon worthy, he’s the perfect boyfriend and truly mends Anna’s soul. There are some great side characters too and Ashton’s best friend Nate has his own book, Enjoying the Chase which I one clicked as soon as I’d finished reading this duet. This was a very emotional read for me due to Anna’s experiences but I would still recommend both stories.
Ashton is the kind of man that a girl could only dream about, he is loyal and caring and the best at everything that he does. Even though it's his job is to protect Anna his love for her shows in the way that he never gives up on her and practically would die for her to keep her safe. Anna is very frustrating at times in her way of thinking and is shows in the actions that she takes to keep herself and others from harm, it's understandable why she does it because she lives with the fear of losing people she cares about and can't face it happening all over again. Together they are a powderkeg waiting to ignite with sparks flying all over the place, and it was just a matter of time before it happens.
This is an amazing story and has made me love this author and her stories even more. I totally need to find myself an Ashton, can anyone please tell me where to find a man like that as I'm willing to trade in my hubby in for a fictional character just like him but Sshh! please don't tell my hubby I said that it's our little secret ;-)
With juggling school, and pretending to keep up their "relationship", emotions are suddenly highlighted when removed from their routine. Making both of them reluctant to say anything.
I wasn't just crazy about him; I was totally, utterly, and devastatingly in love with him....I'd fallen in love with Ashton so hard that it actually hurt.
Ashton had broke down my barriers and had set up camp in my heart without me even being aware what he was doing. The boy had totally stolen my heart without my permission.
The love story that grew just made me fall head over heels in love further with the book - it was beautiful, but the ever present sense of danger never seemed far which always kept me guessing. The suspense certainly kept me hooked right until the very end!
As a first read from Kirsty, I was really blown away by the feel of the story but the fact that the dual perspectives felt real as well. Defining both Anna and Ashton as much more secure people for having one another. They just seemed so much more grown up and I felt like I was a part of watching that develop over the course of this two parter.
A seriously good read, and I can't wait to read more from this talented author!
