About the Author
Harry Eyres went on his first tasting trip at age 13, and has never looked back since. With wine running in his blood in both senses (his father is a wine merchant), he twice carried off the coveted individual prize in the Oxford v. Cambridge Tasting Match (the bibbers' Boat race). He went on to Christie's Wine Department, before becoming a full-time writer for the Spectator, the Times, and various publishers. Between books, he returns to Spain to anaesthetize his palate with Fundador brandy in the bars of old Barcelona.

Priceless !! Author really knows his stuff and actually gives good guidance on how to beat «the sniffers,glass-swirllers,lip-smackers and frowners.« I live in a wine producing country,.and nearly 50 years of drinking wine has taught me that there are lots of good inexpensive wine out there. Relax, let your taste-buds do their job and you will soon be able to tell the difference between Plonk and decent wine that don't need a fancy label or bust your budget. In fact you can normally trust the wine- of -the- house to be a nice choice. The book is hilarious though and I recommend it.

This is a great book if you like a glass now and again and want to know more about wine. As others have said it is a very tongue in cheek guide and there are some real laugh out loud parts, but don't be fooled, for such a small book it packs a lot of excellent information on all kinds of wine as well as port and sherry.
This makes an excellent gift for wine lovers of all ages.

A good introduction to wines, that cuts through a lot of the pretentious rubbish that surrounds the subject. Written in a humorous style and easy to read. Whether you could actually assimilate any of the detail to help your "bluffing" is another question - the sections that go through the various producing regions, grapes, wines etc is densely packed with names that eventually merge into a blur.
Still a good read and well worth the very low price.

This is a great reference book, written by someone who oviously has extensive knowledge of the wine world and those who perceive themselves as experts. It's clear that he has moved among the inflated egos that are to be found in the world of sommeliers and wine critics. So many of the anecdotes ring true and where I knew little about a region or grape variety I was able to touch up my knowledge. I really did laugh out loud sometimes! I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.

An amusing little book, with a relaxed style I found enjoyable, very readable and extremely useful and educating! It raised quite a number of chuckles and the odd eye brow at some of the recommended behaviour, but nevertheless was good value, a book to have handy just before a dinner party or other vinious gathering!

This short book was both funny and informative. I loved the hints on what to say so you sound more like an expert, very funny and very true. The books length is just a perfect for this style and certainly covers most of the worlds wine regions
