Over two years ago, Carys Wolfe lost the love of her life, Evan Hart, and she's tried to move on but not knowing if he's alive or dead makes it hard. She's loved Evan all of her life but she's now dating Greg even if she doesn't feel the same way about him. Carys has the love and support of family and friends, and keeps herself busy working at The Waters, which is a family bar she owns with her mother. Then Evan suddenly walks back into the bar and into her life one evening. Carys isn't sure how to feel or what to think after not seeing him for so long and being left heartbroken when he disappeared. Is he here to stay? Can she ever forgive him for all the pain he's caused her? Will he explain where he went and why?
Evan Hart has always put Carys first and it was no different when he needed to keep her safe over two years ago and made the difficult decision to let her go. He never forgot about her though and always planned on hopefully returning to reclaim what was his. Following his return, he hopes to repair the damage he caused by walking away from the people he loved and cared about, especially Carys. Then he receives information that he never knew existed and must decide what to do about it. Will Evan’s decision impact on the future he hopes to have with Carys? Will Carys even want to speak to him again after he explains why he disappeared over two years ago? Does he have another chance with Carys or is it too late?
“Blue. The color of devotion.”
This is the first book I've read by S.M. West and I absolutely loved it. I wasn't able to put it down and didn't want the story of Carys and Evan to end even though I hoped they would get their HEA. Blue is written to show Carys’ and Evan’s POVs along with flashbacks to their past and how their friendship progressed into more. It also showed that Evan always put Carys first and denied his own wants and needs. He really did, and still does, love her.
S.M. West describes things beautifully and has you feeling the emotions that the characters are experiencing. She throws in a few plot twists that you have no clue are coming and takes her time to give you the answers you need. I expected this to be a typical romance story of guy returns to reclaim girl but it was so much more and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to see what happened next. You also get hints of the close relationship between Carys’ brother, Rylan, and his wife Tate, which leaves you wanting to read Red, book 1, if you haven't already. I haven't read Rylan and Tate’s story but definitely plan on doing so. I also can't wait for the release of Coop’s story next year. There are clues in Wet of who his love interest may be and I'm hoping it's who I think it is because she deserves to find love.
I recommend purchasing Wet today!
*I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Wet. This review is done voluntarily and is all my own opinion.
From the very out-set this book spoke volumes of everything that a second chance romance brings to the page. It was stuffed to the gunnels with not only angst and attitude but a physicality that lit the very page.
When Evan Hart walked away from everything and everyone he knew, he left he destroyed the only person that he ever really cared about Carys Wolfe. He may as well have ripped his heart out and handed it over because she was his purpose, his reason for breathing and by denying himself the truth about how he felt broke her in the process.
Carys knew that Evan was the one that made her whole, so when he left, she lost not only the best friend she had ever had, but the possibility of a future with the only man she ever wanted…until he dropped the bombshell that he was going to enlist. I give kudos to the pair of them they tried to make it work, tried to forge a relationship but when Evan make another life altering decision without as much as a minute’s consultation it was obvious that the writing was on the wall, so when he vanished completely I wasn’t exactly surprised.
What did shock me was the fact that when he eventually reappeared, he almost appeared to expect the time the spent apart to be meaningless and that Carys would be there for him, ready to start over almost…well bad news Mr, she has moved on and I didn’t blame her for one single second.
But fate has plans for this pair, there connection is so deep rooted that staying apart may not be an option, they belonged together it was just a matter of how they were going to reconcile the past in order to move forward.
Oh, and the little matter of the real reason why he left in the first place????
I immensely enjoyed the storyline especially with the main characters having a connection from a young age. I absolutely adored that the hero stayed true to his feelings for his heroine even when circumstances had to separate them apart and he didn't go looking for his next fling. The love for each other is deep seeded and sweet and you witness their longing for one another, especially from the heroine trying to stay away from reconnecting with her man that gutted her heart when he left her all those years ago.
The other aspect of this book that got me going was the family feel you get from everyone. No matter what they went through, they stayed honest and true to each other even when obstacles tried to tear them apart.
The only thing I feel that I think doesn't give this read a five star rating is the length of it. It was too long and a lot of going back and forth with the character's childhood. I feel this could have been avoided as we knew that their history started from when they were kids. The timeline also has a bit of a gap with nothing explained when the main characters were apart from one another. Yes we get the hero's brief career path but I think here is where more emotions and what happened to the heroine could have been explained more.
Overall this was an easy read for me. The storyline flows effortlessly and the tingles and warmth are all around with a few angsty parts.

Carys and Evan have known each other since they were kids and are very close because her brother Ry is friends with Evan and their parents are friends and own a bar together. Their relationship is close already from the beginning but it becomes something more, when they and their families are struck by a tragedy. I loved watching how their relationship grew and evolved. Effecting them both, wanting to act on their strong feelings and in Evan's case wanting to do right by Carys because of her age. The story flashbacks to when they were kids and in their late teens and it worked flawlessly, because some choices were made back then and they have affected them both now that they're adults.
I expected some groveling from Evan since he'd been gone for over two years and he delivered. He was both humble and deliciously possessive when it came to Carys. She was pissed and definitely put up a fight but Evan was too damn hot and sweet for his own good. He made me swoon numerous times with his gestures and showed patience towards Carys. The chemistry between them was smoking hot but most importantly their love was pure, beautiful and eternal. There was no doubt that they were soulmates.
Blue had action and gorgeous romance with steamy scenes. Also a few surprises was thrown into the mix which I enjoyed.
I got to know more about the other characters especially Coop, Ry's colleague from FBI which only made me more excited since his book is the next in the series. So all I have to say is: hurry up 2018.
But sometimes young love turns into an everlasting love.
For Evan and Cayrs their love started the moment Evan held Carys in his arms. He didn't understand the feeling he felt all those years ago, but today he does and knows he'll never love another.
Carys has always wanted Evan and for a moment she thought they had it all. But out of nowhere Evan disappears and tells her to move on. She doesn't understand but as the years past, she finally decides to do as he said and move on.
Evan never wanted to hurt his "Sweetness" but he thought he was doing the right thing. He know realizes his mistake and vows to make things right. He's home, he's here to stay, and he's going to get his girl back and finally start the life they always planned.
Carys has moved on and has a new man in her life. How will Evan return affect her relationship? Can she forgive him for the pain he caused? And more importantly, will they find a way to get back together or has their time passed?
Blue is a captivating, thrilling, sizzling story of first love and second chances. The connection between Evan and Carys is so evident that the sparks fly off the pages. The reason that Evan disappeared is intriguing and the drama that follows him home is gripping.
I was entranced with this book from start to finish. The romance is intense and provocative. Evan is a hero that would move heaven and earth for the woman he loves. I love Carys and her strong willing personality, she isn't afraid to stand up for what she wants.
S.M. West brings a story full of grit, passion, excitement, and heart and soul. I would highly recommend Blue if you're looking for a read that's addicting, heart stopping, and have you believing in second chances.
I loved this book from the suspense, angst, to the steamy love scenes. It was a page turner for sure. This series is new to me, but this book can definitely read as a standalone. This is a wonderful example of how second chance romances really can work out. I highly recommend this book.
Evan just disappeared out of Carys' life, and everyone else's. But it impacted Carys' more because she was losing a childhood best friend, lover and what she thought of as a soulmate. They grew up together his parents being best friends with her parents, they even bought a bar together. On that fateful day that her dad and both his pants were gunned down in a drive-by shooting their childhood was never the same again. Carys' mother doesn't want the kids split up and she raises her two and Evan under the same roof.
Even at an early age Evan and Carys had an unbreakable bond which started out as a friendship and in their teenagers years turned into a romantic relationship. But that all changed when Evan told Carys he was enlisting in the military. She waits for him and they start a real relationship, even living together but that all crumbles when he makes the decision to not include Carys in his life altering decision. He cuts all ties and vanishes for a couple of years only to resurface and expect Carys to take up right back where they left off. She has moved on and is dating another guy but she doesn't feel that connection she had with Evan. But their pasts come back to haunt them. Will she forgive Evan, the man she loves, before it's too late? How will the family react when presented with the real reason Evan disappears for so long?
