Product description

Product Description

There are only a few, crucial weeks left to the national election when the chief of staff at the Justice Department disappears without a trace. As her replacement, Elin Hammar, tries to find out what happened she is thrown into a conspiracy of lies, falsified documents and hidden agendas.

At the same time the extreme right wing party, Trygghetspartiet, is heading towards their best election ever. In the small town of Ludvika, Annika Nilsson, the party s local representative is preparing a public speech, in spite of her son´s protest. He blames her for being a racist and has grown tired of the threats and harassments the family has to endure.

Behind the political scenes a series of terror attacks are planned that will send shock waves through the entire nation. Sweden´s first national socialistic terror group is about to surface.

Yet another hot off the currently prolific Scandi-crime conveyor belt; yet another stylish tale of murder, mayhem and political shenanigans; and yet another interesting, strong female lead in the person of Louise Peterhoff, who plays in-demand, politico chief of staff, Elin Hammar. It’s production values are high, acting characteristically brilliant with script to match.

Additionally, its theme is also tragically relevant to events we seem increasingly to be witnessing at home and abroad as political views become more and more polarized. There are Swedish elections in the offing and a lot of political manoeuvring going on amongst all political parties, including some previously below the political radar; i.e. those at either extreme. For the first time it seems the far right Security Party, campaigning against what they claim to be unfettered immigration, may be in a position to hold the balance of power. But, even more extreme groups are also slithering out from under their protective rocks and springing into action, with dire consequences for innocents and players alike.

But although this is truly dramatic, hard hitting stuff, containing shocking sequences, it loses one star; the reason being the lamentably downbeat resolution that isn’t a resolution! Increasingly, it seems, audiences are expected to accept unresolved dramas that propel the action to, what should be, exciting and satisfying conclusions, only to ultimately disappoint in favour of ambiguity: all in the interests of setting up a sequel!

Have just watched this over the weekend, it is mind blowingley brilliant, it is a mixture of every day political clap trap and nationalist Nazi's type propaganda, saying that, it is a first class series which is extremely well written and acted by all concerned, would recommend this series to anyone who likes Nordic Noir, this had me hooked all the way through from beginning to end, even got up in the middle of the night to watch t as well that should say it all, if you've not seen it then do buy it as it will give you a lot to think about as well as a very good program, well do to all concerned.

Blue Eyes all centers around the disappearance of a woman in a political party leading up to an election. More things unfold, with each party having their own style, and a group causing chaos and fear all in the middle of this. I liked Blue Eyes, although its certainly not up with the class of The Bridge, Wallander, etc. I think the main character is excellent but the supporting roles are lacking and I dont think the story is as good as other top Nordic Noirs. Having said that, Blue Eyes is in a genre with some heavyweights of crime and political TV and I do think it is something you should watch.

Worst Scandi Noir i have seen so far. A real waste of money and time. I have watched Borgen, The Killing, The Bridge, i am so ashamed having watched this one.

If Nordic Noir is dead, then Blue Eyes is its funeral anthem. A clever story idea, the emergence of a neo-Nazi terrorist cell in modern Sweden, never becomes even the shadow of the polit-thriller it might have been. Start with the acting. Each main character has one expression which is maintained at all costs right through each episode. Erin is the worst offender. How could any director have wasted such an appealing actress? Or was another actress doubling for her wearing a mask? The geo-politics are based on the theory that uranium-mining is essentially evil and that only the most corrupt politicians would allow it. If it is so evil, one assumes that it would have to be conducted in secret if ever it got started. Tricky. Anyone who followed Borgen with awe will shed a tear for the shabby, silly political shennanigins that pass for Swedish politics in Blue Eyes. The prime minister apparently believes that a run on the stock market will bankrupt the country and that only private investment by a crooked uranium miner can save the day. Well, a basic economics course should sort out that one for the scriptwriter. Of course there is a top secret document (in one copy only) that shifts from office to office and in and out of the government building with no transmittal notes or signatures. Security in the Prime Minister's office is hair-raisingly lax. The police sniff around like tailors' dummies. An entry wound caused by a bullet that has passed through three layers of clothing is clean and shows no sign of bruising. Surely Nordic Noir can do bruises! At least that much we can expect! And one could so easily many more signs of abject ignorance and shoddy reasearch.
So, why two stars? What was good enough to earn a star? The neo-Nazi terror gang, unconvincing as it is, is an interesting idea.

It is really pretty dismal. The subtitles are poor and baffling at times. "Erin" succeeds in looking like a constipated rodent throughout. It almost gets exciting but not quite.
