The Senator's answer is that Republicans have "neglected to focus our policies and our rhetoric on the plight of lower-income Americans." The "most effective antipoverty tool is a combination of work, education, and marriage" a theme the Senator has spoken about, consistently, for years on the campaign trail.
The Senator backs up his statements with current, statistical facts. Such as: "Since 2009, 14.7 million people have been added to the food stamp rolls, while only a few hundred thousand net new jobs have been created. The staggering fact is that we have added 75 new food stamp recipients for every new job. And the burden on taxpayers to fund this expansion of welfare is growing dangerously."
The Senator advocates replacing ObamaCare, "before it's too late." The Senator proposes a plan to deal with pre-existing conditions and empower states to offer additional policy choices. He asserts that the government does not have the right to "ration medicine, as it certainly will do once the expenses of this enormous new program begin to overrun the budget."
In addition to ObamaCare, there are chapters that address: education, the American Worker, Social Security, Welfare Reform, and the Economy.
This book is entirely consistent with the message Senator Santorum campaigned on during his 2012 bid for the White House. This is an essential read for any conservative seeking to make sense of the questions for the 2016 campaign trail.

However, America has seen trouble times in the past and has always risen above them. The Civil War, WWII and the former Soviet Union deemed “The Evil Empire”. We rose above them with the leadership from the right people at the right times.
Rick Santorum is just the leader we need now to repeal and replace Obamacare before it fully takes root. As stated in “Blue Collar Conservative” chapter entitled “Replace Obamacare Before it’s Too Late” Rick Santorum states “The promise of healthcare for all provided by the largesse of the federal government will not make us stronger. It will lead to less innovation and fewer cures… less choice of caregivers, longer lines, higher cost and lower quality medicine than a private system”.
The problem isn’t health care cost or access it’s an ever growing burden of federal control. Rick Santorum states “Prior to Obama’s taking office in 2009, nearly half of the payments for medical care in this country were already made by either federal, state or local government”. So the answer to better care being more accessible and more affordable is to replace Obamacare and remove the already burdensome controls of the federal government. One thing is for sure, that won’t happen under a Hillary Administration. It will take a grass roots constitutional conservative who holds to traditional American values and has the strength of character to forge a new path.
The Progressive Liberals want to push us toward a top down Western European system that is failing. Rick Santorum, as a former US Senator, introduced Health Care Savings Accounts, supported a block grant system allowing states more flexibility in Medicare, allow states to provide “High Risk Pools” and sell insurance across state lines. Read “Blue Collar Conservative” and catch a vision for better health care and a stronger America.
Don't be surprised, though, when you see that this is much more than a book about middle income jobs. Senator Santorum eloquently explains how family is our first economy, and "family makes us stronger."
He details why the social programs of today are harming, not helping, struggling families and why the Affordable Care Act is not the answer to health care woes. For those who don't know, Senator Santorum was responsible for initiating the first health savings account bill, so he speaks with authority.
Blue Collar Conservatives is the game plan I've longed for, so I want to say "Game on!"
