Flor Is a lovely person. Nothing like her dad really. She didn't care about all the fancy things. She wants to make her own life path and just go. She is about to finish school, hopefully start working with horses and be on the path she has been dreaming of.
Things are looking good for her. She will soon be working with horses just like she wanted. She loves the place and everything about it. And that even includes Collin. Flor may feel something for him, but will anything really happen? Everyone has a hidden past, and things aren't seeming so right. So it could go either way right now. But as you continue on and get to know them, you'll soon be able to tell if Flor will be there to just work or maybe she'll come around for some Collin.
Of course I ended up just loving this story. But if you've been around here long enough, you already know how I am about Vivians books.
Blossoming Flower by Vivian Winslow is the first book in her Wildflowers series which is a spin off of her Gilded Flower series. A wonderful contemporary romance with more mystery and lies that blends in with the previous series beautifully. Bringing back a character that one loves to hate, Vivian allows us to to become reacquainted with familiar characters and story lines while introducing us to a whole other branch of the story.
Flor is the daughter of Gustavo de Lima (he is the man we love to hate and hate to love from the previous series). Trying to hide from the scandal that is unfolding by her fathers incarceration and ruin, Flor is determined to move on with her life without all the privileges money enabled her to have. After seeing Poppy (remember Lily and Dahlia’s bad mommy?? LOL), Flor decides to spend her summer on a ranch where she knows she’ll feel more free with the horses she connects to so easily.
Collin Taylor is one moody dude. Having been brought up on this ranch and having quite the past himself, he does all he can to fight off his attraction to this Brazilian beauty that has come to the ranch. When he realizes that there is more to Flor than meets the eye he decides a friendship is possible. Having secrets of his own, Collin finds it way to bask in Flor’s company and before we know it the inevitable happens.
With secrets, mystery and betrayal blanketing the entire ranch, Flor comes to realize that not all is as it seems. Is the love that Collin and Flor share enough to allow then to ponder a future, or will her name de Lima once again make her run for the hills?
Another solid book by Vivian Winslow. A little slow at times, but her love scenes certainly make up for any of that. The chemistry between Flor and Collin was HOT and so believable and I absolutely loved all the secondary characters. I enjoyed meeting Gustavo and Poppy once again and I dare say that I am not thinking this story is done just quite yet. I would recommend reading The Gilded Flower series first as it’ll add to your understanding of where Flor comes from and how she became to be the person she is. I do suppose you could read this as a stand alone but you would miss out on so much if you did!
HAPPY READING! :)

After her father empire comes crashing down his daughter Flor tries to escape the scandal by attending college in America. Her dreams are to become an equestrian veterinarian. Her love of horses is strong but her spirit is stronger. In desperate need of a summer job. She finds herself approaching Mrs. Poppy Baron for work at her ranch in California. Now if you are an avid Vivian Winslow reader like I am then you know all about Gustavo and the Barons. I have read them all and would highly recommend reading them before starting this series as it gives you a lot of history about the characters.
Flor never realized California could be this beautiful. Especially when she meets the very handsome and reserved trainer Collin as well as the stunning, confident Paco.
Paco’s intentions are quickly known. Even though he is beautiful she finds herself drawn the the boy with the dark brown eyes. Collin is an enigma. Soft spoken and reserved. It’s only when she is paired with him to assist in training does he start to open up to her.
The horses, the ranch, Collin…it’s all overwhelming and her attraction for him only grows stronger. When he kisses her she feels it. When he looks at her she melts.
But secrets come to head that could ruin them…when her father comes to the ranch…the biggest secret of them all is revealed.
Does Flor have it in her heart to forgive them? Or will she leave and turn her back on them forever?
Vivian’s writing is powerful. You can almost smell the hay in the stables and the sweat from their bodies it’s so well written. Highly recommend reading any and all of her books.
Favorite Scene: The storm
Chances are you will probably fail miserably. But you have to try. It’s the only way you will really know what you’re capable of—which at this point in your life, is everything. That’s the magic of youth. You have plenty of time to reinvent yourself.”
Flor was a stubborn young woman who has had her world turned upside down and round and round a few times. She isn’t sure where she stands but knows what she wants. She wants to be a horse vet and she wants to be her own person away from her family. when her college is closed she is pulled into her family without realizing it.She is desperate to stay away from family so she goes to the one person his dad mentioned and once again she is in a upside down state and family dynamics.
For Flor I love her desire for independence and I love her conflicting feelings for Collin at first. I love her cautiousness at first. She has been betrayed alot so that is natural. She though was holding secrets and when Collin’s came out she was a wee bit hypocritical. In the end she realized this and listened to Collin but she almost didn’t because of how lost and angry she was.
collin had secrets. He was trying to get his life together and get over his shame but he wasn’t do a good job. He was lost in his shame and feeling of disappointing his parents. He had learned he was doing things to please others and not himself and he realized this more when FLor came in the picture. Collin was a standup guy who needed to figure out his life. He closed up himself to avoid hurting himself and others. Flor had feelings rise up that confused him. Over time they made him conflicted but when he couldn’t resist anymore he made changes in his life. And they were great changes he finally became free of his past and shame. He opened himself up for love.
Flor’s dad what a piece of work. He is a spoiled spoiled man but he does love his daughter that is obvious. I just hope he changes his ways so he can stay more in her life than just watching from a passing glance.
The past romance that is the ranch is sad and beautiful and so is the relationship of Collin and Flor. Why is theirs? Because it has so many unknowns and although they love each other they haven’t really gotten that HEA. We don’t know what is to happen.
Overall the characters and the story are likeable. Paco and Flor’s dad have a lot of growing and you will despise him. The story is sweet when you watch these two come to know each other and find each other. How they helped each other grow and become more of who they want to be. Their intimate moments were sensual and toasty and how they grew as individuals was great as well. The leaving it open at the end didn’t sit well and has me itching to know if these two survive. A good story that is entertaining and sweet.
Flor is a young woman who still has so much in life to experience. She grew up privileged and that all went away in the blink of an eye when her father had to pay for his mistakes and she was left trying to pick up the pieces. I feel like Flor was an interesting young woman. She had so much that she wanted and so much she didn't. She was fluid in her opinions of what was happening and the people around her. She felt profoundly and her hurt and frustrations were deeply rooted. Family was a facade that shattered long ago and she is longing to make her way in the world. She meets so many different people along the way. Some help her in her endeavors whereas others try to manipulate and control.
There are several plot twists in this story that are surprising. While reading this story, there are many times a big secret is alluded to. You know something is brewing underneath the surface but you have no idea what it is or where things are heading. When it all comes out, it is just as dramatic and complicated as you would expect. There are many things that no one knows about and it all comes down to one benefactor who has a keen interest in Flor's life. The dramatic points hit you like "wham bam" and then you are moving on with our characters trying to readjust to what has happened.
Vivian has a very unique writing style that takes some getting used to. The story is constantly in flux, moving from one person to another. At first it takes a bit of work to understand the jump and shift continuously from person to person, but once you get a handle on it, it flows much better. You will see a smattering of perspective from almost every character you encounter, allowing the reader to see what is going on and understand what is progressing from a unique standpoint.
This book made me want to move to a luxurious ranch and meet a sexy ranch hand to fall in love with. The romance in this story is good, starting as a sweet connection that is confusing and moving into something that is passionate and consuming. Flor has to make decisions about what she wants and when she falls, she falls hard. I am hoping to see more of the continuation of the happily ever after of this story in the next of the Wildflower series!
