The plot moves along quickly, with Kane and a number of other shady characters - cops, gangters and women - finding themselves mixed up in some interesting situations, seemingly unconnected at first, but eventually all leading back to a long forgotten murder. The subject matter is quite dark, but that is a good thing. Kane himself is tough, wise-cracking, resourceful, but also human and believable, and his back story is interwoven through the main plot. The chapters are short and punchy, and there is a definite Raymond Chandler influence at work, which again is a good thing. The Belfast setting and black humour give this series its own character. I'm looking forward to reading more.
Definitely recommended for genre fans. The follow up 'A Dark Place' is also worth a read and some of the author's stand alone books are also good - check out 'The Redemption Factory' for another dark and bloody tale!
I love Mr. Millar's style, his sentences are short and descriptive, the dialog is perfect, the story is exciting, the tension is breath-taking and he's very funny, I laughed out loud more than a couple of times.
I'm thrilled Bloodstorm is part of a series, Karl Kane, PI, and that I have another Karl Kane, PI book to read now.
