About the Author

Helen Harper is an English teacher currently living abroad in Malaysia. As a long time reader of urban fantasy, she finally bit the bullet and began to develop her own series of novels. Helen has always been a book lover, devouring science fiction and fantasy tales when she was a child growing up in Scotland. "I always loved the escapism provided by those genres," states Helen. "No matter how bad life gets, you can always find a route out, even if only temporarily, in the pages of a good book." The growth of urban fantasy fascinated her - the mix of reality and fantasy along with strong heroic female characters appealed from the very beginning, and inspired her to write her own.

Helen Harper is a new author I have just discovered after I have read Robin Hobb's Assassin series and this one was recommended. HH's style was really easy to read and allows you to sink very quickly into the story and immerse yourself ... Well I wallowed in this series! And it's fantastic that I didn't have to wait til the next one comes out because the whole series have now been published on kindle!!

Mack's a great character! I love it that she's a reluctant heroine, love the do it attitude and the unapologetic grumbling and angst. Because hey just because you have to do something doesn't mean you have to like it! Love the combination of all the supernatural groups: were, vamp, mages, fae and weird nasties/monsters. Love the other characters too!

Basically this series is about a girl who's an outsider, who doesn't know what she is, going on a journey of discovering her identity, got a strong streak of right and wrong and will beat into a pulp anyone who gets in her way or make her angry while fighting for the weak, the infringe species, the humans and putting right what she felt was wrong.

Action, angst, emotions, mystery, tribulations, romance, mischief, loss and so much more!

Fantastic series! Great new writer and really looking forward to reading more from Helen Harper!!

I can't recommend this series much more than I have. Buy it read it you won't regret getting it!!

Thank you Ms H! Please write more and please set up a website as I can't seem to find one for Helen Harper author! X

For paranormal fans expecting a story of epic proportions from Bloodfire I am afraid you would be disappointed. However as this book concentrates very much on laying the foundation for the remainder if the series I would suggest that the epicness will be worth waiting for later in the Blood Destiny series!
Mackenzie is exactly the kind of heroine I enjoy reading about; she has fighting skills, is sassy, intelligent and yet despite her strength she cares deeply for the pack she lives in.
Bloodfire is very detailed in both plot and character, as I have already suggested, although also very action-packed and full of fantastical creatures (a were-hamster?????!!!). I felt an overwhelming need to reach for Bloodmagic as soon as I had reached the end of the story thanks to Helen Harper's storytelling skills, and this is ideal beginning to what promises to be a compelling paranormal series.

This had all the elements I look for in an urban fantasy. Great action scenes, strong female lead, enigmatic male lead and a slow developing romance. In fact, it's so slow that feelings aren't declared till 2 books later - sort of. The plot moves well although you can't read it as a stand alone. I read all four books straight away and am really looking forward to the fifth. I only subtracted 1 star because I rarely rate a book perfect. I found Mack's temper irritating sometimes although there are reasons for this to be discovered a couple of books later....... Will say no more. Don't like to give spoilers.

This book is full of action paranormal fun with a unique twist. There is no dull bits in this book, no part of it that is utter drivel to fill the pages. Nope this book just keeps the action coming amazing stuff thank u Helen Harper you did good x

So, having family in Cornwall, it's a given I am going to love this book! I didn't expect to love it so much. I thought it was really clever, with talented and expressive writing. I liked all the characters, especially the Wizard. They all meshed together so well. The best thing about it however, was how the author got across the emotive responses, I actually felt everything. It made me smile and cry, just crazy good! x

I really loved this book. Shapeshifters, vampires, fae and other magical creatures are all standard fare for this genre but Helen Harper somehow brought a feeling of originality and I found myself completely caught up in the story. I ended up reading the entire series over a week. The characters are fantastic and the author builds a fantastic chemistry between them as the books progress but manages to keep a flow of interesting story lines that never feel lost behind the romance. Similar to the Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson series, you feel the main storyline is the focus and the romance and character development is build cleverly into this without ever feeling forced or out of sync. The secondary characters are fun and engaging and humour is laced throughout. In a genre filled with mediocre and average novels, this stood out for me.

I am going to review all 5 books in this series together as I read through them all so fast I am not sure anymore where one began and another ended. I am very glad I come across these after the author had finished the series as I would have found it an excruciating wait! To say that these books were addictive is an understatement. I literally put my life on hold for a week to read them, and what an enjoyable week it was. I discovered Helen Harper about 2 months ago and am slowly working my way through everything of hers and loved all that I have read.

This series of 5 books contains everything I look for, quality writing, interesting plot, great world building and a main character to fall for (with of course an even hotter alpha male thrown in for good measure). Mack was likeable from the very first moment we met her, she took on a huge journey to discover her heritage and go from were pack member to being an outcast, then to one of the most important members of the supernatural society. I loved that we took the scenic route around the UK, from the wilds of Cornwall via Scotland to London, stopping a few places in-between. The supernatural world had everything, including the political interplay between the main groups of Fae, Were and Mages. Some things that stood out were the Were themselves, not just wolves but a whole array of animals. The vampires deserve special mention, these vampires certainly did not sparkle and to be honest were similar to what I think they would end up being if they were indeed real! I loved the friends that mack made along the way, with special mentions to Alex, Solus and Aubrey. This was indeed a roller coaster of a journey and I laughed (there was fantastic humour throughout) and cried. The ending was kind of bittersweet and possibly a little abrupt but still satisfying although I would love a peek into the future sometime. Thank you Helen Harper for a fantastic read.
