About the Author

Tima Maria Lacoba is a former ancient historian and archaeologist who accidently smashed a 3,000 Egyptian vase while on her first dig! Her supervisor made her glue it back together again. It took a week. From there she went on to specialise in late Roman-British archaeology, and the military forts along Hadrian’s Wall, because buildings don’t smash as easily. Now, she’s combined her love of history with another passion—story-telling—to create a dark tale of Roman soldiers cursed by a British witch. Between bouts of writing, she can be found in the kitchen baking yet another chocolate recipe. This activity is responsible for forming more gothic, urban fantasy stories in her mind for future books. Laura is a school teacher whose aging process is different from what we would call the norm. Her boyfriend is a cop and he accepts the fact that her DNA is different without giving the matter too much thought, that is until her coming of age birthday.

She is then told the truth about her true parentage and the reason why she ages so slowly. She meets Alec, who is a vampire on the same night and is informed that he is her guardian. Despite the fact that she appears to accept most of the information, which is classed as myth, she also finds some of the implications hard to accept. After leading a normal life, she now finds that she is in danger if she doesn't abide by what is expected from her.

She is attracted to Alec as much as he is attracted to her but she is more intent on staying true to her boyfriend but once all is revealed, the sequence of events takes a turn for the worse.

This novel is not the usual vampire story and is full of mystery, suspense, love passion as well as betrayal. It is one of the books which is hard to put down. The story is beautifully written and just when you think nothing can go wrong, it does. I was totally engrossed in this tale and this novel would appeal to those who like reading about the paranormal. I look forward to read the next instalment in this series.

Laura Dantonville is an exceptional woman about to turn fifty she looks and behaves like a woman half her age. At her birthday party she discovers her true self and the secret of her youthfulness. Revelations abound and by the end of the day everything she believed to be true is in fact an elaborate facade to protect her.

Alec is the vampire destined to protect Laura in exchange for the gift she bestows upon him. He has protected her mother for the last fifty years so why should this be different?

Bloodgifted is written in the 1st person from Laura and Alec's point of views. This subjective style allows the reader to be a fly on the wall and experience Laura's confusion and devastation when she discovers her true self. Alec is sexy and alpha but glimpsing his innermost thoughts reveals his kindness and unexpected attraction to Laura.

The plot is twisty and every conclusion throws up another question ensuring you keep turning the pages. I loved the apparent ordinariness of the heroine and the existence of a paranormal world operating in secret in mainstream human society.

Bloodgifted shares many qualities of the L. J Smith young adult series Nightworld which I loved. An enthralling mix of history, mystery, paranormal, romance and suspense I can't wait to read the next chapter in the story.

I was hooked on Tima Maria Lacoba's Bloodgifted from the outset with its excellent historical prologue.
A refreshingly different take on Vampires, this book brimmed with action, adventure and romance, making it an exciting and entertaining read.I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, I was so invested in the lives of Laura and Alec.
Having read an excerpt from Bloodpledge, the continuation of The Dantonville Legacy, I am looking forward to reading the next in the series from this very talented Australian author.

This book started brilliantly, with a well-written original concept to explain how the curse of the vampires and blood gifted was first set in motion...then it went downhill, like a child who has repeatedly rehearsed the first page of a piano piece, at the expense of the rest. It was a decent enough read to wile away a few hours but I can't rate it higher due to the following:

Poor editing: The manuscript needs a thorough edit for grammatical and spelling errors/typos - I often found myself re-reading a sentence that didn't make sense due to a word addition or omission.

Inconsistencies in the plot: Due to her unusual heritage (which she only discovers at the age of 50) Laura ages very slowly and appears to be half her age - yet she was able to go travelling abroad in her 'youth' and purchase a house in her thirties. According to the plot, she would have seemed too young to achieve these things on her own...the 'suspicious looks at customs' isn't a satisfactory covering explanation for the reader.

In terms of the story, when Alec is first told he has to be Laura's guardian he is immediately resentful about several aspects of the deal that are forced upon him by Luc - his 'sire' to whom he still owes five more years of servitude - which had me rubbing my hands in glee at the prospect of a feisty relationship between himself and Laura (of course ending in true love) - except the fighting, resentful spirit fizzles out and is replaced by the mundane insta I-will-love-you-for-eternity stuff the second they meet. I felt cheated!

Despite all this, it was an easy read and the story was compelling enough to keep the pages turning. I may read another if the price is right!
NB I've called this a romance for 'grown-ups' as the human(ish) characters are too old for it to count as YA, like many other vampire romances.

If you’re looking for high quality Vamp Romance then you’ve come to the right place. This novel follows the Novella Laura’s Locket. Laura Dantonville was young and innocent years ago when she fell for a handsome stranger while vacationing in Italy only to have him mysteriously disappear. Many years later she will come to find out this mystery man holds a very dark secret and will threaten her life! Laura learns of a family curse and is thrown into the world of the vampire realm. She finds out she is one of the ‘Ingenii’ which are of noble blood and keep some of the highest ranking vampires alive by offering themselves to them. One of those high ranking vamps, Alec Munro a sexy, hunky vamp is given the honor to guard her and happens to fall in love with her. And this vamp is one hot lover! Things really heat up when others try to possess her. Author Tima Maria Lacoba throws in one surprise after the next keeping the reader on the edge of your seat! This novel flowed so smoothly and was written so well. I can hardly wait to read Bloodpledge, the next book in the series.
