A great device able to tell you actually what your battery is storing rather than just empty/full ... and the restore function is a dream! If you have the time (can take 2-days to recover a dodgy cell) it will cycle charge/discharge up to 10 times to maximize capacity. And then when you do it again, it will try to push capacity even further. More importantly it also shows you very quickly when to give up with a battery and finally consign it to the bin!

This charger was ideal for my application. The USB port worked with iPad Air, iPad 3, Motorola G2 phone and Nexus-7 tablet, and the basic AA charging was really helpful allowing the full discharge which my Eneloop cells typically do not get (I usually recharge every night). Having the European main connection as well as UK meant that it worked in Norway and Iceland.

only used it a couple of times so far and it seems to be very good at what it does, I had quite a few 2700 uniross batteries sitting around for a few months that were very flat, put them on the charger and decided to discharge them before a full recharge and it worked out brilliantly, took quite a few hours to do it all but im more than impressed with it, 8 all done at the one time and as they were fully charged the light when out so that you knew what ones could be used right away, I have a few small chargers that do 4 batteries at the same time but this is far superior to anything else on the market, a wee bit costly but you get what you pay for, would I recommend this charger a most definite YES.

Seems to charge very thoroughly, to bring back lost capacity/perofrmance, though you need to be patient. Only slight grumble is that the mains connector is either UK or Europe - once you've fitted one adaptor, I think it's all but impossible to remove it to fit the other one without breaking the whole thing. But maybe there's a knack? .

This is an amazing piece of kit, especially if like me you have previously been getting by with ancient NiCd trickle chargers. More than just a charger, when left over a day or two it can run through complete charge-discharge cycles and calculate the actual capacity of each battery. And since the unit operates from 12 volts it can also be used on a boat or caravan with the lead supplied.

Apart from the main digits, the display is rather small and difficult to see in low light, but that is mere nit-picking. If you use any amount of rechargeable AA/AAA cells then this unit is highly recommended.

This is my second Ansmann charger, the first over 10 years old is still in regular service and works well.
Purchased this one to provide extra capacity at Christmas. It just works as expected. A little more expensive than some but if you want the best it's worth it.

A compact and well made charger with a good warranty. One big plus is the ability to discharge the batteries before charging, each cell works independently of the others.

The only issue I have is that the power adaptor generates a lot of electrical noise which affects my home plug performance by around 30%. All battery chargers will do this and moving them around to other sockets gaining more distance will help but I have used other chargers in the same wall socket without issue.

It's an excellent charger, the best I've had for AA and AAA batteries. Very configurable, and with very useful functions and displays, e.g. charging each channel together or independently, charging current from 400 to 1800 mA, charge, discharge, or cycle. You must read the manual to get the best out of it. I discharged-charged several dying batteries with this and they're doing fine now.

Also, search amazon for:
Ansmann Powerline 4 Pro Charger with USB Port
and you'll see much more positive reviews (4.5/5 aggregate) for the version with a USB port.
The cost is very similar and you get the extra socket.

For NiMH batteries, I wouldn't leave the batteries in for long after "Full" is displayed (when it trickle charges), because that'll shorten their lifespan a bit, unless if you churn through batteries quickly (e.g. a workshop with all day equipment use). Then the trickle charge top up is great.

I'm buying a second charger (for work as well as for home) because they ARE that good.
