About the Author

Born and raised in the coastal English town Lowestoft, it should come as no surprise (to those that have the misfortune of knowing this place) that I became a horror writer. From an early age I was sent to schools which were at least 30 minutes' drive away and so spent most of my free time alone, as the friends I did have lived too far away for me to be able to hang out with them in the weekends or holidays. I have been a writer as long as I can remember and have always had a vivid imagination. To this very day I find it all too easy to just drift away into my own mind and explore the world I create; where the conditions always seem to be just perfect for the cultivation of ideas, plots, scenes, characters and lines of dialogue I am married and have four wonderful children; James, Logan, Ashleigh and Damon. My biggest dream for them is that they grow up, and spend their lives doing what makes them happy, whatever that is. For people who buy my work, I hope that they enjoy what they read and that I can create something that takes them away from reality for a short time. For me, the greatest compliment I can receive is not based on rankings but by knowing that people enjoy what I produce, that they buy my work with pleasure and never once feel as though their money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Alex Laybourne has written a book that not only chills, but completely spellbinds as your turn the pages. It is a clever take on old vampire lore, and sets the stage for a thrilling, enjoyable read.
The roots of this novel go way back, back to a time when vampires are seen as demons, and not the loveable kind we read about today. Fast forward to present time, and the sleepy town that becomes the breeding grounds for a vampire, who, just by chance is never seen killing his victims and is on a quest to find his bride and sire her.
Laybourne does a magnificent job visually. His storytelling had me hooked from page one and it has been long time since I've read a good old horror novel which embodies the perfect monster that vampires truly are.
If you are a die hard vampire fan, love blood, gore and a plot that is well delivered, then this book is the perfect novel for you.

Blood of the Tainted is a novel that strips away the fantasy of vampires, bringing them to their raw monstrous self. It takes great talent and guts to deliver a novel that goes against the vision that vampires seem to have become in this day and age. The novel portrays this excellently and I really enjoyed it. The characters are developed well and you get a real sense of fear and you become legitimately scared for them, as they progress through the novel. Set in a small town, with a sheriff Ian Raskin as the main protagonist, you watch him develop and you really begin to route for him. As with everything comes scepticism when something new, or what you once thought to be fiction it learnt to be true. Can Ian save his hometown from the evil that threatens to destroy it?

The pace of the novel helps tell the story well, enough detail is given to build a mental picture in your head and you can really see the scenes as they unfold.

If anyone is into horror and wants to read something that in my eyes paints a true picture of what vampires would truly be like then pick up this novel today and give it a good read.

Wow. I thought Highway to Hell was violent, but that is a sweet romance compared to this. Just when I thought I had seen enough blood and gore, the author takes it up a notch. Do not read this book if you have a nervous disposition!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!!!! 16 Oct. 2015

I loved this book. I've been a vampire fan since I was a kid. Alex Laybourne didn't disappoint. I couldn't put this book down. I usually take a week or so to read a book. It only took me two days for this one. The author knows how to keep the reader interested.

I'll definitely be recommending this to my friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary vampire scare 11 Jan. 2017

Review: BLOOD OF THE TAINTED by Alex Laybourne

An engrossing vampire tale, BLOOD OF THE TAINTED at times reminded me of the work of Graham Masterton, both in the specifity of gore and in the imaginative and creative nature of its gory fatalities. Mr. Laybourne allowed me to easily suspend both my disbelief and to enjoy a horror subgenre I don't usually choose.

When an ancient vampire selects a small community for his depredations and havoc, multiple fatalities ensue. At times, the psychological manipulation is as scary as the actual killings, for this entity knows well how to read minds, erase memories, and manipulate humans, turning them against each other. The terror seems unstoppable.

I reviewed a digital copy generously provided by the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Just Another Vampire Novel...... V""V 24 Aug. 2015
By VampireLovingDork aka NerdGirlVamp - Published on Amazon.com

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review*

This is the first book I have read by new to me author Alex Laybourne but I very much doubt it will be the last.

As everyone knows I am a HUGE vampire fan and they are generally my preferred reading choice BUT that does make a little harsher of a critic I feel as many of the things I have just simply read before. Now this may not be a bad thing - Classics tales done well are always good ... but I digress.

This story is a little different from the general scores of vampire literature out there and I LIKED it! These vampires don't want to love you, they KNOW they are superior and that humans are just a convenient food source and it was GREAT!.

If you are looking for a cute vampire romance then this is not for you, but if you are open to something a little darker, something more reminiscent of when the monsters were supposed to be the things that went bump in the night then I suspect, like me, you will enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars for me!! V""V

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic Vampire Story 4 Oct. 2014
By CP - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Note: I received a complimentary copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

The story opens in a quiet small town with a wife and mother brutally attacked in front of several witnesses. The strange thing about the attack? No one saw her until her body fell to the ground completely drained of blood. Over the next few days more gruesome murders occur including a farmhouse being burned to the ground. Only Sheriff Ian Raskin seems to see through the veil placed over him from the town’s conqueror.

Okay, first off I have to say I love the imagery in the story. I could hear and smell the cooking meat at the farmhouse (Trust me, you’ll know what I mean when you get to that point) as well as the heartbreak and frustration of the main characters.

This may sound cliché, but as is the case with nearly every great vampire story, there is an underlying love story between two of the characters that binds them together. It also helps to keep one or both grounded when everything else is falling apart and adds so much more to the story. The story between Alex (Alexandra) and Beth kept me turning the pages.

The levels of storytelling plus the different take on the mythos of vampires is refreshing and a testament to the author’s ability to weave so many different levels into the tale and makes this one of the best vampire novels I’ve ever read. It’s up there with Dracula and Salem’s Lot for me.

If you like your vampires bloodthirsty monsters and not handsome midlife crisis sufferers, then this is the perfect book for you.
