I read this directly after reading the first and wasn't too sure what to expect. I wanted to know what would happen with various characters and where the story would lead. I have to say I was happy with the end result. It could have turned out quite predictable or run out of ideas after book 1 but it just got bigger and better.
There is more action, I'd say it was faster paced even though it's bigger. The story line is more intricate and it starts to become more than just another vampire tale. In my honest opinion the best vampire fiction will always cover off back stories for the eldest vampires spanning thousands of years. Not only does this happen in this book but there are several strains of vampire and it's not done in a cheesy way at all.
I read a lot and I always felt that Anne Rice as much as I'm not a fan of the person would be hard to beat with the Vampire Chronicles due to the level of detail in her work and back story she gave the vampires. I'm not claiming its been done here in a few books as there were ten chronicles some more than a 1000 pages however I feel that the reader gets as much out of it and it is written well enough that you're not left needing more information.
I hold high hopes for the third book in the series which I have just started. I doubt I'll be let down.
I'm so glad I stumbled across Christopher Buecheler whilst trying to find books for my new kindle. This trilogy started with THE BLOOD THAT BONDS, and let me tell you, that book was like my heroin, one hit and I was hooked.
So when I found out he was releasing BLOOD HUNT, I knew I had to have it as soon as physically possible.
Both TBTB and BLOOD HUNT are amazing books. Beautifully written. Each chapter felt like it ended on a cliff hanger and had me desperate to find out more.
I have to say, I got emotional whilst reading BLOOD HUNT. I cried, I laughed, I wanted to punch someone and I cried some more.
I don't want to give anything away to people that haven't yet read this, but if you buy a book based on good reviews, BUY THIS BOOK...NOW. You won't be sorry you did. (but make sure you buy THE BLOOD THAT BONDS first)
I don't know whether the author had been holding himself back with the first one, but I felt that this second part in what will be a trilogy, was head and shoulders above the first. All the characters were really well defined, the story moved from place to place, taking you on a journey that was tense, fun, exiting, happy, sad and really damn sexy in places!!
From reading the sneak preview at the end, it looks as though the final book is going to be pretty action packed and I'm looking forward to it.
In conclusion, make sure you start with The Blood That Bonds (you'll be quite confused if you don't) and then do not hesitate to download the second book...you'll seriously enjoy it!
Read if you want a no nonsense vampire story.
The book is all about vampires and the main characters are 'good' vampires. The story is not about 'blood drinking', but more about adventure, love and friendship.
ENjoy your read.
