Light is a rebel rocker vampire with a studded leather jacket who rides a Triton motorbike. And boy, does he have attitude! In his call-a-spade-a-spade way of talking, he debunks a couple of vampire myths straight off the bat: Holy water, entry by invitation only and crucifixes - all “bollocks” apparently. Fair enough. But aficionados of vampire fiction will be pleased to know that Light doesn’t sparkle in the sun.
There are two women in Light’s life. Ruby is a sexy Elizabethan red-head who elected Light into the Blood Life in the mid nineteenth century She remembers the Inquisition from the first time round and isn’t afraid to employ some of its methods. Kathy is a free-spirited singer from Yorkshire who has escaped to 1960’s swinging London and is enjoying life to the full. From the docks of Victorian London to the vibrant life of Carnaby Street, the sensuous settings provide the perfect backdrop to the colourful characters.
The story opens in the present day when Kathy, now an old woman, is dying from dementia. Light tells her their story in an effort to help her remember. He also admits to things that he’s never told anyone before. The themes of the book are love, memory and redemption. The story explores deep human emotions with insight and wry observation.
What makes this book so exceptional is the quality of the writing. The story is narrated in the first-person by Light. Rosemary Johns has created a voice for him that effortlessly blends the colloquial with the literary and the poignant. The author handles voices particularly well. Ruby, being Elizabethan, occasionally uses words like “prithee” whilst Kathy’s father talks in a strong Yorkshire dialect as if he’d just stepped out of the pages of The Secret Garden.
The pacing is also spot on.

Readers’ Comments
‘I do enjoy a good vampire story so this was right up my street. And, I must say, it’s fantastic. The characters, particularly Light, are memorable, and the plot is complex, interesting and ends with a bang. Loved it!’ Female reader, aged 24
Light’s a pretty nasty customer, but I liked him anyway. Girls love ‘bad boys’.’ Female reader, aged 42
‘The best part of this vampire saga is the unexpected twists. Every time I thought I knew what would happen next…it didn’t.’ Male reader, aged 26
‘Any Twilight fan will love this. Amazing cover too.’ Female reader, aged 29
‘There’s superb depth to this vampire novel. The author knows her characters so well, particularly Light. It must have taken a huge amount of week to plot such a complicated vampire life. Plenty of pace with plenty in there for any vampire-lover.’ Female reader, aged 32

‘Superb in every way! A SILVER MEDAL WINNER and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Format: Paperback
The first installment of Blood Dragons, Rebel Vampire Volume 1 by Rosemary Johns is a very unique paranormal romance. It’s completely different from any I’ve read yet and it was certainly a pleasure reading this one. When a Blood Lifer is in love with a human who is now elderly and with dementia, it’s incredibly sweet how Light tries to bring back her memories of their life together. Though such a romance is expressly forbidden in this 1960’s London era where vampires are both predators and prey, it doesn’t stop this rebel Rocker Blood Lifer from falling head over heels for this seductive singer, Kathy. Ruby, the villain, is mentioned in this story as having been the one to turn Light into a vampire after having a long-term relationship with Light but not caring for him at all, that is until Kathy comes along. Though it’s a tragic love story, I still give 5/5 stars. This fantasy series is well written, the writers voice strong. The cast of characters are strong willed and will strive to achieve everything they set out to get, no matter the price. The book wouldn’t be good if you didn’t have villains and seemingly hopeless obstacles to overcome. Enjoy! *Copy gifted to me in exchange for an honest review*

Blood Dragons is different than every vampire story you have ever read. It is fresh and new and Amazingly written. Light's journey is filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, love and hate. He is so tragically flawed that you can totally relate to him in one way or another. I am excited to read Book 2. Rosemary Johns is definitely a one click Author to me!!!
