Today I stopped at lunchtime, sat out in the garden and finished reading Blogs Change Lives by @mamapreneurrevolution / @youbabymemummy Being able to get out at lunchtime is a bonus of working from home occasionally. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a book that promised a step by step guide to building a bloggingbusiness, and the emotional and personal story behind it. I’ve read how-to guides on all sorts of media over the years and they’ve ranged from the complex to “you’ve taken my money to churn out these old tropes”. But I’ve hung out in Aby’s Facebook group for a while now and love her Lives and webinars, so on the whole I was hopeful. I was not disappointed! The book is clear, human, and incredibly detailed without making assumptions about knowledge. It covered everything from theme, layout, Writing, planning, monetising, SEO, social media, promotion, and so much more . It’s knocked me for six though in a really good way. There’s lots running through it about mindset and on this Aby shoots straight from the hip. Knowledge and skills aren’t enough, you have to want it - whatever IT is. I wanted to shout amen, because that’s exactly how I feel. I am focussed, organised and believe in the value of clear objectives, but there’s also something else.... sheer will. Now I’m not saying everyone needs or should want to do it all, after all success looks different to everyone. We all have our own motivations, values and goals. But, if you see your blog as more than a hobby, or think it could be, then you need to check this book out.
Having followed Aby Moore for several years I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her first book - Blogs Change Lives. And I wasn’t disappointed.
Aby’s blogging & business tips have always played a huge part in my own blog development and this book is the perfect collection of all her awesome advice and helpful content in one place.
It’s really easy to read with concise and direct chapters across all blogging topics from organisation to building community to working with brands. Each section ends with Aby’s Action Step - a practical idea for putting that chapter’s advice into your own blog.
What I really love is that between all the outstanding advice (yes I have been highlighting certain lines and scribbling in the margins!) Aby also shares lots of personal stories about her own journey. The section about friendship was particularly poignant to me.
This book is ideal for anyone starting out as a blogger but equally helpful for more established bloggers too (I’ve been blogging for three years and definitely always learning!). It would make a wonderful gift too for any blogging friends or family members.
'Blogs Change Lives' is not just another 'how-to-blog' book of tips, but in addition to sound advice, it's also a story of why those tips work. Aby cleverly weaves her personal story between chapters of solid business strategy - a story of how and why her blogging journey began, how she grew her business successfully, and how she now shares her knowledge and experience with other mamapreneurs to help them be successful too.
'Blogs Change Lives' takes a beginner blogger through the whole process, from understanding your 'why' and 'who', to getting the right look through clever branding, what and how to write, how to market yourself and capitalise on social media, how to find your niche, and so much more.
Even more seasoned bloggers will get so much value from this book; there are ideas on repurposing content, how to grow your email list, how to build your online credibility, and how to diversify your income streams.
Jam-packed with 'Aby's Action Steps' and brilliant motivational quotes, 'Blogs Change Lives' is the only blogging book you'll need to start and grow a successful online bloggingbusiness!
