The German campaigns in Poland and the West in 1939 and 1940 ushered in a new era in warfare. The theory of the Blitzkrieg (Lightning War) developed by Hitler's forward-thinking generals - including Guderian - was put into devastating effect. Based on a German book published during World War II and never before translated. Blitzkrieg in their own Words is a military history of these campaigns written by those taking part. The short individual accounts give a unique perspective into the workings of the German war machine during its greatest victories, before the disaster of the Russian Front. The authoritative text is complemented by maps that explain the movement of forces and photographs of key battles and encounters during the German attacks. With rare photographs of the action accompanying the text, the book will be of interest to any World War II enthusiast.

I have been studying, Rommel, Heinz Gudeiran, Manstein, and Otto Skorzeny's books for about two years and felt extremely lucky to find that this rare and exciting book by Heinz Gudeiran was only recently available in English. I have been completely satisfied by the accounts of everyday German soldiers in it.

The book does not disclose or comment too much on German strategy. It is a collection of flattering statements of Nazi low rank military personnel on a war in France and in Poland. I assume, it had been used in Nazi propaganda campaign inside Germany before 1941. The only thing it confirms or makes clear that majority of Germans at that time were in complete support for Hitler's policy.
