Product Description

Atmospheric psychological thriller set in the Scottish borders. Danish backpacker, Mike Hammershoi (Anders W. Berthelsen), arrives at Black's estate looking for work. He encounters blind owner Francis Black (Peter Mullan) living there in a shuttered, decaying mansion. Francis reluctantly offers the traveller a low-paid job in the yard. Mike then meets Rachel (Jodhi May), Francis's enigmatic young wife, and decides to stay. Emotionally suffocated by her husband, Rachel takes Mike as her lover. As their attraction increases, so too does Francis's jealousy and rage. When Mike leaves, Rachel, devastated by her lover's departure, is forced to make a difficult decision. As tension mounts, the three are pulled together in a tryst that will have dark consequences for them all.

Format: DVD
Brilliant performances especially from Peter Mullen, this is a real gem of a movie. The cinematography is excellent and the tension palpable. The story is an inspired reworking / reinterpretation of The Postman Always Rings Twice / Therese Raquin but with a surprising ending. A real eye opener!
