Top Customer Reviews

Format: Mass Market Paperback
It cannot be easy to write a suspenseful novel when readers already know the ending! However, this book is not about the arrival, it is about the journey. Spike and Nikki, the NY slayer, dance around each other for half the book but you know, once they get on the subway train, it is all over for the Slayer.
The characterisation is pretty good - Spike is very well portrayed for those of us who already know and love him. Nikki is a little too focused "It's all about the Mission" and we learn about her but do not get to know her so well. I found the 1970s black lingo a bit tedious but it adds colour, I guess.
The fighting scenes contain descriptions of moves that meant nothing to me, (eg haymaker - what's that about?) but I don't dwell on fights in the TV scenes anyway, so no loss.
So, summary, this book expands on what we knew of Spike's history with Slayers and with Dru knitting it all together seemlessly and entertainingly. Easy to read, do it in an evening.
