There are a lot of unfortunate things happen to Briar Chapman but when she finds herself at Lucas Holt mercy and possession she is shocked and scared and her life is never the same
When Lucas Holt sees Briar or his (Blackbird) as he names her he has to have her even though he was told to never buy the first but something in him wants her, his life is never the same
I have to hand it to Molly she writes beautifully and this is no exception and I can't wait to read her next book
"We’re a battle of the brightest day and the darkest night—and I want to lie in the wake of our war."
This was a dark, gritty, dirty and sometimes disturbing book- there is no way around that. The subject matter is not for the faint hearted but if you are a fan of dark reads like I am then you will love this book! Yes it's dark but it is also much more and everything really isn't at it seems especially when it comes to Lucas.
"But I’d been happy with our life and excited for the days to come. Until they didn’t. Until I was forced into a world I’d been blind to and came face to face with the devil. A man cloaked in darkness—a man who would set me free. A man hidden in a world I vowed to destroy with him by my side."
Briar and Lucas were both captivating characters. I truly believed Briar was beyond brave despite knowing she was truly terrified sometimes. She didn't let her fear completely take over and she always remained a bit defiant which was amazing in her circumstances. Lucas is one complicated character. You hate him in the beginning because of what he has done but even from the beginning you know deep down he isn't all evil, that he isn't actually wanting to do what he is doing.
"I had given my heart to a man who had no intention of giving his to me.Read more ›
I went in blind, feeling a wee bit confused with the prologue, then realising we were getting Briar's thoughts on her life before her life was turned upside down.
Briar was a complicated soul, it was as if she didn't belong in the world she was in, she did have a kind heart when she offered to help her friend.
Kyle was an odd man, I didn't doubt he loved Briar but I felt that things weren't quite right.
I was terrified for Briar, with what she was going through, dealing with an unknown entity, totally unfamiliar, but she was one very brave courageous lady.
Lucas first appeared as a terrifying man, and I was happy to see we was human after all!
I loved Briar, she was a very strong determined lady, and dealt with the very dark, twisted life she found herself in.
Couldn't stand William, even as Lucas's mentor he kept over stepping the boundaries. Totally got what was coming to him.
I did like Karina, one of William's ladies, she has a fun personality and she did come over as happy.
I loved how Briar and Lucas got on, even though under the circumstances, their love was very strong and bounced off the pages at you, even if they were in denial.
There were some great characters in this book, they each played throw own parts, but brought the whole story together.
This is a dark story, and whilst its not a taboo subject, some people will struggle with it. BUT once you get into the story you just don't want to put it down, and this was exactly how I felt. I was thinking about the book when I had to go to work.Read more ›
The story started out strongly. A loved and loving girl who is just weeks off marrying the man of her dreams is kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity. After agreeing to cover a shift at work for a colleague who is experiencing problems in her home life, Briar Chapman finds herself falling down the darkest of holes into an unknown world as she is kept chained and drugged and in fear for her life. Eventually, she is removed and taken to a room where she comes to realise, once stripped of her clothes and her sanity, that she is about to be auctioned off to unknown people. Standing and watching as her bids rise, she starts to realise that life as she knew it is now far from her reach. With the option of being shared or moving into the house of a master, she struggles to be calm in the face of her uncertain destiny.
Lucas Holt is one of the men determined to win Briar in the auction. He is currently being mentored and Briar is set to be his “first” of many girls to be owned and kept by him. With strict instructions by his mentor not to develop feelings for the girls he owns, Lucas knows that upon first sight of Briar that this may be an impossibility for him. Briar is taken home to Lucas’ house and kept in isolation until she finally bends to his will. In fear of being raped, Briar is desperate to escape and to return to her fiance.
As time passes, Briar starts to witness something in Lucas that makes her wonder if part of him wishes her no harm.Read more ›
