I won't list what it does because there are already plenty of reviews doing that.
So I'll just write about things which I have noticed and am concerned about in the hope that I am being helpful.

I chose the Bold 9000 because it has a wider screen than the other models which were available at the time [Sept 2009] - but I wish I had chosen a model which wasn't so wide. Why? Purely because I am used to texting with one thumb and because the screen is wide, so is the qwerty keyboard, so I can't quite reach across the whole keyboard with one hand. My hands are small, so I should have thought of that, but I didn't. I just thought that a wider screen would be best for viewing You Tube clips - which it is, but now I have to use both hands to type, which is ok, but I would rather be able to type with one. So the large screen which I thought was a plus factor has turned out to be what I don't like about it. But maybe that's just me?

The calendar thingy annoys me. I am used to Nokia phones and their reminder facility which allowed me to set a reminder to notify me on a certain date at a certain time. That system was flexible. The Blackberry system is not. Click on the calendar icon, choose the day you want to set a reminder for and you get a list of times [in hourly intervals] from 2am to 8pm.
The reminder alarm notifies you fifteen minutes before the hour you have chosen. Which is fair enough, but what if you want to remind yourself to do something between 8pm and 2am?????? I appreciate that the Blackberry is designed for business people and the reminder is really to notify them of the timing of a business meeting or appointment, but what about the rest of us? I would like to set reminders to myself for whatever time of day or night I choose.

We chose this for its excellent keyboard and screen and have not been disappointed. We bought it SIM-free so that we would be free to travel without incurring costly roaming charges.

We are using it with a 3 (UK) PAYG SIM, and use as a phone (calls and texts) has been completely straightforward. However, much of the internet-related software (email, web browsing, etc) is tailored for use with a Blackberry phone contract, and it has sometimes been difficult to find out how to use the phone without such a contract. What we have found is that the built-in browser works well over WiFi (and in the absence of a phone signal this can be used for Gmail), while the Opera browser, the Gmail app and Google Maps (all of which can easily be downloaded from the internet) work fine through our PAYG SIM. (Incidentally, the 150MB "free" mobile data allowance which 3 provide for each top-up, expiring after 90 days, has so far proved to be easily sufficient for our purposes.)

Surprisingly, given Blackberry's reputation for quality, there have been one or two niggles with the built-in software. Most notably, text entry in the Blackberry Browser is fiddly because word-wrap does not work so each paragraph appears as one long line scrolling off the edge of the screen.

BUT THEN THE BATTERY WOULD NOT CHARGE, SO I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY.
NEXT THE SCROLLER BALL STOPPED WORKING. AND NOW THE PHONE DOESNT WORK
AT ALL, I CANT EVEN TURN IT ON.

SO I WONT BE BUYING FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN.

I was extremely disappointed to be sent a second hand phone with someone else's old photos on it. It also showed TMobile on the start up & shut down screen (I'm with Vodaphone) & the soft ware would not load on my computer. It also dialled foreign numbers when I used contacts from my address book without putting 0044 in front.

Having gone to all the trouble of personalising the handset I then had to clear it & return it.

I will say that the seller was very apologetic & refunded my money very promptly.
But this should not have happened.I purchased a new item in good faith which came boxed etc. The hassle was not worth it.

Bought this phone for myself (and an iphone for a mate) recently and have to say its the best phone I've ever used. Its an older blackberry bold but I saved over 300 pound on a new one which does the same thing except for stuff like processor. Comparing it to my mates iphone, the apps aren't as good but not terrible either but what really impressed me is the speed this thing works at, switching between applications is much quicker than an iphone. Plus, and this is a personal thing, but the bold 9000 is a damn stylish thing and looks expensive, where as the newer bolds look too much like the curve. Overall, have a look if you want a keyboard or touchscreen, if you want. Touch phone an iphone is brilliant but for a keyboard nothing bets the bold (I've done the review on my bold)
