This is the best Roy Orbison album ever. Orbison at his very, very best, live, and with a backing gruop, the likes of which we're unlikely to see again.
The girl backing vocal group consists of k d lang, Bonnie Raitt and Jennifer Warnes.
The backing group includes T Bone Burnett, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne and the brilliant James Burton on guitar. The final track, 'Pretty Woman', includes an extended guitar "duel" between Springsteen and James Burton. The album would be worth buying for this alone.
This is a "Must Have".

I have this on Vinyl and it is about worn out so I was ecstatic when the CD came out - I cannot recommend this CD highly enough from start to finish it is very polished performances by all artists particularly Roy himself it is an album you do not want to stop and I wish it could have gone on much longer BRILLIANT!

Not just good or great but superlative. thats more than likely bad grammar, but this CD is brilliant. Despite the fact that the listener may be familiar with most of the tracks and heard them many times before they sound and feel as fresh as Springtime.

How can anyone not love Roy Orbison?
Sadness and tragedy dogged his life, he sang in deep blue tones, as dark as his trademark shades, songs of love lost and love never found, yet his voice was warm, caressing, always human, and dramatic with no hint of self-importance. Bruce Springsteen, who plays guitar on this star-spangled live album, used to joke with the Big O that his massive hit It`s Over could have simply consisted of its opening line, "Your baby doesn`t love you, anymore", and it would`ve been just as haunting.
He had a point.
Roy`s death in Dec 1988 at the absurdly early age of 52 was another tragedy, not only for his family, but also for the millions who loved him. There are some artists who, when they die, release such a wave of grief and regret that death has had the audacity - the vulgarity - to take such a one from us all. By all accounts, he was a thoroughly good and kind man. It comes across in his music, again and again.
The line-up on this `87 date is mouth-watering. Not only Springsteen, but alongside him Elvis Costello - whose great tailor-made The Comedians Roy sings with stupendous
aplomb here, more than a year before its official release on Mystery Girl, the first of his two superb posthumous albums - as well as T Bone Burnett, venerable guitar legend James Burton, good old Tom Waits on keyboards, and backing vocals by a veritable dream team of Bonnie Raitt, Jennifer Warnes, k.d. lang, Jackson Browne, JD Souther...they all do these imperishable songs more than justice, in fact it`s there for all to hear that these musicians bear a love and respect for Roy and his songs that is a joy to listen to.
The songs themselves need little introduction.

Saw the video on television at New Year and enjoyed it so much that I researched into whether there was a CD released. To my joy I found this. Even if you are not a die hard Big O fan, this is just a great selection of his songs, played and sung by him with a backing band, the quality of which rarely get together. Give it a go, it is high on my list of go to plays in my collection

This is a fantastic CD. I am not a die-hard Roy Orbison fan but bought this because it seemed to have all the tracks that I wanted to hear on it. Since it arrived it has become one of my favourite CDs - he has the most amazing voice and as it is a live album you get a real sense of the evening and the tracks are longer than you would get on a studio recorded version. What a voice he has, what some great tunes and really upbeat, brilliantly performed music - I really don't know why I haven't bought his records before.

O.K. we've heard the songs hundreds of times before, especially if like me, you heard him from the beginning, around 1960. But this live performance, 27 years later, has an extra magic. They are brilliantly updated by the superb, famous musicians accompanying Roy and the enthralled, enthusiastic audience giving them an added excitement. The voice, of course, like no other, is magnificent. No, there'll never be another to come close to the brilliance of this shy, unassuming but superbly gifted singer.
