Manufacturer's Description

"Battle another God for dominance over the land through divine benevolence or mutual tyranny"

Battle of the Gods is the expansion disk for Black & White 2 and offers player a host of new challenges in a much darker, more sinister game world. Battle of the Gods takes the player back once more to the world of Eden where something strange has started to happen. The Aztecs have not accepted defeat lightly and by making a huge number of human sacrifices they have managed to raise their own evil deity. Now the player must return to Eden to fight this evil deity head on. As always in the Black & White world, the tactics employed to battle with this new foe are up to the player - but if nothing is done, this evil deity will take over the world.

The player's quest to rout this new foe will be made easier by their own tribe, the Greeks, and of course, the creature. Both will be tested to the limit by the evil machinations of the Aztecs and their god.

The Black & White world allows player the freedom to choose how they will rise to this new challenge either by countering the evil deity's actions with good ones or attempting to out do him with extreme evil.

As well as fighting back with huge armies, the player can also use an array of spells and, when the occasion demands, an epic miracle.

This expansion pack boasted to "expand" the Original game far beyond it's original premise, but sadly was a huge let down for me. The original game was actually a let down in comparison to it's predecessor, so this shouldn't have come as a surprise.

Main points:

(1) I thought we would get more creatures to try out. The original Black and White offered variety, some of which you could achieve through quest completion. All you get here is a turtle and if you didn't previously have the special edition of Black and White 2, then you get a tiger too.

(2) Unbelievably here the game only gives you three additional levels. It shows you four levels, but actually the first level isn't even playable, and is actually just a visual of the Aztec God's island. Due to lack of content and quests, I completed the game in three and a half hours.

(3) You can't use a previous account from the game - your tribute, your bought miracles, buildings and gestures don't mean a damn. You have to start from scratch and make a new profile. The let down here is buying everything all over again and then finding you can't afford some of the necessary miracles you need (in fact, you'll find you can't afford the best miracles and wonders until after you don't even need them anymore).

(4) While a few of the miracles were good (Verdant, for example, turning enemies into harmless animals) most of them were similar to what you can already do in the base game (why buy an expensive lava miracle when you can use cheap fireball miracles to do the same thing? Pointless!).

The Battle of the Gods was a great sequel to Black and White 2. The evil undead enemy God adds a sense of darkness, and you really get involved with the game. However, many of the new add-ons, such as new buildings are unnecessary and the game is easy to complete without them. The mini games are fun, but many of the problems with Black and White 2 are still there such as certain graphical glitches, and STILL no multiplayer.

Overall though, its worth only £17.00, and I really enjoyed it.

I mistakenly gave my son (11) my old version of B&W and he loved it until his people got wiped out and had to start again. I thought why not try B&W 2 as it's going cheap. On his fast AMD 5000 + NVidia 7950 gaming PC he fell in love with B&W 2 and the original is back on the shelf. Five weeks later he, and his mates, are still slapping Japanese, Vikings and undead legions to make room for his Greek worshippers. I thought I would try the expansion pack here with him as well. He eagerly loaded it, played for a few hours and then went straight back to the original B&W 2 for the next month or so - cuddling his various original 'creatures'. So at first this expansion pack didn't wow him at all I'm afraid, and it seemed to have a take it or leave it quality. The last few days he has now moved on to the expansion pack, and he likes it. He says it gives the other (enemy) races a God and he really likes some of the new buildings. The butchers and dove cots are his favourites. The game seems to look better than the original B&W2 possibly just because there are more interesting buildings. So a kind of hit, but I must admit I still have to ask him which game he is playing as this expansion pack does looks pretty identical to the original B&W2 game. I'd certainly give it a try though if you love B&W2, and it's going fairly cheap.

Black & white 2 was one of my favourite games, being able to build a city and kill or protect you people was a great thing! I guess I was around 12 years old when I first fell in love with Black & white 2 however when the expansion pack came out I never really was too interested.. I guess I wanted something newer and more exiting.

While this expansion pack isn't new or very exiting it adds to the fun you have. I love both games and still sacrifice a few people here & there, it's great! Building armies and taking over towns or huge forts! Then once you own the land (the island) you can stay there and build up your city until your hearts content. I love Black & White 2 & Black & White 2 Battle Of The Gods !!!!

I've played the Black & and White series since the beginning, it's a brilliant sequel to Black & White 2 and I'd most definitely recommend it for people who've enjoyed the previous games as it is a great continuation of the story. Also to anyone interested in a brilliant RTS/City builder combination with that Omnipotent feel.
