I appreciate Game of Thrones more after this.......
29 April 2016
Less subtle than Game of Thrones. And the sex is even more staggeringly irrelevant; Added in later, Caligula-style, and obviously intended to boost audience figures. Weirdly, some of it is visceral enough to make you feel queasy.... ...the heat, the sweat, the spitting into their hands and shoving...... No. Nevermind. Perfect teeth everywhere you look. And one character wearing dark glasses off a stall from Camden Town. Toby Stephens desperately looking for a way out and not finding one, a red head sweltering in the heat. Wouldn't want to be his agent. This stuff is amusing enough, but the opening titles are more impressive than the episodes. Some miscasting problems. Lazy characterisation. And clear evidence of funds running low, particularly with the special effects. The final episode is something of an anti-climax. Is it a disaster? No. But a little more conviction wouldn't hurt - so much so that we are dithering over whether or not to buy season 2.
