I loved this book. Around 80%in it started to lose me I'm afraid but once I persevered with it it soon grips your attention again.

You have Tristan, a true ass who half the time your struggling to decide if you love him or want to smack him round the head! This is pretty much how Marty feels about him too!

Your bound to love Shane, especially towards the end of the book, where he had me laughing with the image of a grown man falling onto his arse when walking into a wall (can't explain too much as it'll ruin some of the plot)!

However my favourite scene of all was when Tristan goes to an anger management group session. Seriously what happened in that group? I really want to know!!!

This is a fabulous return to form by Ms Mathewson after her sabbatical and cannot wait for her next Pyte novel!!

Black Heart - what an amazing start to a new series. Tristan and Marty, the main characters, from they were children they were drawn to each other and as they grew up that turned to attraction then love. Tristan thinks he is doing the right thing by Marty, keeping his distance from her because he didn't want her drawn into his weird life. He believes she deserves more. But, in all good romances, that idea quickly goes out the window and soon Tristans past and present become Marty's.

There are twists in this story that you will never see coming. It's a long book, but there is never a dull moment or a drawn out scene. Secondary characters worm their way into the story and your heart, like they've always been there. I don't want to say too much and give it all away. But the book has the humour I've come to expect from an R.L. Mathewson book, the steamy love scenes and the need to read the next book like yesterday. :-)

Ok, a bit different from the other books by this author but with the same laugh out loud humour and gripping read as the rest. The only reason I dropped a star is that it felt as though there was too many internal monologues about how much they felt about each other. Not enough to make me stop reading at 3 in the morning though! Can't wait for what seems like an explosive story about Shayne. Although I think some of the others will be hysterical (Finn).

I'd like to state that I am normally a really big fan of this author. But this time I just couldn't "get this book" the first half was a typical love story, starring Tristan and Marty, friends from childhood they had been very close. But Tristan has a secret, he's a troubled man. He doesn't want to inflict that on Marty so he pushes her away. Then circumstances throw them together and it's a case of will they won't they.

Then suddenly the book takes a complete 365 degree turn, and becomes something completely different. It was after that I didn't enjoy it so much. So many characters were introduced and the story arc became very confusing. So no this is not my favourite book by this author.

I really loved the neighbours from hell series, the characters, the humour and love were fantastic. This book was entertaining but at the last 20% it became tedious and long. It was about a Detective Black, who could communicate with dead people. He had a difficult childhood dealing with condition. He loves his one childhood friend, Marty, but doesn't act on his feelings as he doesn't want to deal with consequences. He's really mean to her and it's funny to see them two arguing. This was all entertaining but at the end lots of random people and becomes a bit confusing.

As always, Ms Mathewson's writing is incredible. The characters just feel so real!

It's a story about soul mates but with a twist. it's a very unique and interesting twist on the genre. The characters are amazing, as usual, and I can't wait to read more about the rest of the family. They sort of remind me of the Bradford's (NFH series) but without the excessive eating. Ms Mathewson writes the conversations so real you can almost hear them speaking.

Though I can't wait to read the rest of this series, once it's written, I am VERY pleased that she will be working on the next Pyte/Sentinel book. I'm glad to hear that her physical health issues have not kept her from writing and I'm glad things are getting better for her.

I do strongly recommend this book. As with all her other books, it's fantastic!

I am so happy that RL is back from her break and is writing another series and this first book did not disappoint. I loved the characters and the plot. It's an original idea. I am a massive RL fan having read all her books so far, I just love the combo of dominant yet love able rat b@stard men and stubborn yet delicate female leads with lots of lovely family to make it interesting and allow for things to expand and bloom into a rich tapestry of inter linked stories. 5 stars for black heart, can't wait for the rest.

Not quite what I was expecting. Loved the first half, found the second half harder to follow too many brothers/characters. But a surprise none the less probably not a book I'd normally pick but I enjoyed the change and a good read.
