While werewolf politics played the major role in the plot for this story, it wasn't the biggest driving force between the two MCs, that was firmly in the sexual attraction and tension front and it was very well done.
There are a few narrative plotpoints which don't get explained, like how Jared bought his Camden flat worth nearly a cool half million quid which is never fully revealed as his graphic designer salary would have to be insanely high for him to have bought it outright. I just told myself it was probably famik inheritance and moved on!
The emotional elements relating to the werewolf relationship parts of the story were well done, as were pack dynamics and the overall world building of the culture.
It's set in London but I didn't feel a particular British vibe from any of the characters or in the locations settings but, again it wasn't anything which distracted from the relationship part of the book.
And oh boy, what a relationship it was! The enemies to lovers aspect was well played out, the reasons for their confinement together made sense and I liked that the ending wasn't the obvious choice and instead left room for manoeuvre.
Hot smexy throughout and a truly powerful connection between Jared and Nathan really pulled this story together.
I'd definitely read more about these type of shifters.
Annabelle is a new author to me and I will definitely be looking in to her books soon.
"I am,... and you're mine."
I'm always looking for a good MM shifter (Or PNR in general) book to sink my teeth into. Heh. I happened to come across this, one-clicked and devoured this book. This is actually my first book by this author and I really, really, reallyyyy liked it!
Jared had a bad experience.
A bad relationship with a shifter.
And now despises them. Well, he was sure he did.
Caught up in chaos and mistaken identity gets Jared bitten by Nathan, a shifter. There's more to worry about than getting bitten by a shifter which leads to both guys stuck together until the next full moon.
'He looked tired in the muted light of the living room. Tired and at a loss. Not the vicious creature Jared needed him to be. Jared didn't want to start liking him.'
I just absolutely loved these two together. Loved. The hatred and sarcasm rolled up with the palpable sexual tension had me so giddy! I adored the transition from a mishap that forced them into this situation together to them actually wanting each other, to needing each other, to loving each other! There was just something so swoony, cute and romantic about it. And then the possessiveness. mmhmm. On both sides. I loved it. It was hot and just everything and made me love them even more. I seriously could've read for hours more about them two.
"I'm scared that I'll wake up and there'll be this big empty space here-- " he pressed gently against Nathan's chest "-- where I should be."
Nathan put his hand over Jared's and kissed him again. "I'm scared of that too."
I didn't necessarily have any problems with this book, I just wanted more. However, I do feel like Alec was a big presence in this book without actually being there and I was kind of disappointed with not meeting him. Maybe in the next book... or the book after that? Him and Luke? Maybe? Gah!!
Speaking of more books, I'm sooo hoping there's going to be a couple more to follow because I've found a great PNR book/setting with brilliant characters.
If there aren't anymore... I'll definitely be devastated. *Sniffles*
There could have been a bit more detail and scenes with pack members I think, because when there was a scene with Nathan's beta, Gareth, it was tender and spoke of closeness which I feel could have been explored more. In terms of secondary characters, we didn't really get to know many until the last couple of chapters...this was also a shame.
I'm not sure if there is set to be more to make this a series, because there is a hint of something possible on the future with regards to Jared's best friend.
So I would definitely recommend this to those who love this genre or those wanting to start reading it.
