As other review have stated, Bitdefender does make the PC slower, although I think it is still usable, and some of the PC I have installed it on are not super fast.
It does have a useful feature, that if you have a number of PCs in the house and a slow or limited download broadband, one PC can be set up as a master and download updates directly to other PCs, instead of all the PC doing it on line; one of the PC I've installed wont play ball on this.
The Parental Control allows you to view sites of concern that the children have been trying to get on via a web site. This means that you do not have to be on their PC to see if they are trying to view sites they should not. (FYI Bitdefender does block them). However, again one PC doesn't want to play ball with the website, although the parental control is working.
There is a forum controlled by Bitdefender company that you can access to help with problems.
I have not been disappointed. Purchased the 3 user version and have installed on my two desktops (one AMD powered one Intel) and a
Samsung laptop. So far no problems whatsoever, no slowing down, no weird behaviour as reported by others.
Previously I have used Kaspersky, also without problems but Bitdefender seems to be less intrusive and requires litle technical
knowledge when used in autopilot mode.
Also received 5 additional licences for Bit defender Anti-Virus for free!! These can be used by friends or family.
All in all a very succesful purchase at a very keen price. "Works for Me"
1. It slows down internet access to the point where some sites are almost unusable.
2. It completely disables some programs. None of my network camera viewing programs will work with it installed. Try running Y-cam MultiLive and it never connects after BD is installed.
3. If you enable the option to scan removable media, CDs etc, they become unusable. I actually thought the CD drive was broken when I put the first CD in after installing BD.
This is not an issue on a single machine. I installed it on 3 different machines and they all have the same problems.
Buy Norton it is cheaper and it works.
Symantec was fire and forget but very weak, and the update engine was slow and lethargic. Kaspersky for a while had a killer product but after they changed their update system from the FTP server to something more complex, I dropped it (years ago). I wouldn't touch McAfee, it's too weak. Now using Bitdefender, which having a previous history of being weighty on the system I thought: let's see...
One peeve is that although you can password protect BitD from manual/remote changes to the AV suite itself, I somehow could still change the aggressiveness of the Firewall and Anti-Virus modules without a prompt for a password!!! Odd.
However it did ask me for a password when I attempted to disable the Firewall or the Antivirus.
BitD does interfere... when you disable the FW and AV for say video editing (off the network), there is still a fairly big slow down/overhead/delays in refresh that you can feel. Since then I leave it running permanently on Game mode to shut it up.
It also doesn't like to co-exist with Windows Security Essentials (the malware scanner from MS). On occasion, when it tries to stretch its legs, BitD will elbow WSE on boot up causing WSE to fail on start up.
It would be nice to have an AV suite that just behaved and reacted to how you worked. If a user disables the AV and FW to get a speed boost without the network running, then surely those modules should stay dead: 3 stars... which is about the same I'd give for all the other AV suites.Read more ›

I found the to easily the worst internet security I have ever bought or tried. You will have to remove then re-install other security software later. It doesn't like to mix. Read morePublished on 13 Jun. 2013 by sKEPtIc

Good value at time of purchase but does not like older motherboards running Windows XP (don't understand why).
To date it has kept my computers safe.
Easy to install, is reliable and effortlessly protects my PC.
I would highly recommend this product for any home user.
